Taking Charge! Virtual Learning Electronics
Funded Dec 1, 2020I am so thankful for the opportunity to bring this project to my students with your generosity. The level of excitement is amazing.
My students learned about electronics and wiring with the electronics kits, and they are now able to wire the electronic bugs and bring them to life.
When the students first saw the kits, they wanted to just do the entire project in one sitting. We had to divide the learning up so the impact of the final bug project would be more meaningful. We learned about serial and parallel circuits, how to attach motors and switches, and how to use a voltage meter to test the strength of their batteries. We are still working on the bug projects and all students will be done with their bugs in the next couple of weeks.
Students really need and want more science. We are hoping to get to robotics soon, so they can see how electronics and programming can be a continuation of this project.”

LEGO MATHSTORM
Funded Dec 3, 2018I have seen students show tremendous growth in both their engineering and programming. Students who have not been engaged in traditional math are seeing the benefit of knowing how to program in algorithms to make their robots perform a task. Because of your generosity, I have multiple kids telling me that they want to build and program robots as adults.
I dedicate between 30-45 minutes each day for STEM, and the students beg for more time. We are going to be taking our robot to the South Sound Invitational on June 3rd. Thanks to your donation, our students will be on even footing with middle and high school students. Fourth graders have got the platform to prove that they can plan, improve their designs, test, and compete. Finally, the students will inventory their kit so that it will be ready for the next engineer.”

Funded Feb 25, 2011becomingportraitsI wish that there would be an opportunity for you to see the impact that the digital cameras and printer have on the students. I barely got the materials out of the boxes, and the students were "all over them" with enthusiasm.
The digital cameras are used daily (in fact, there is a sign up sheet and students have scheduled just about every hour for the rest of the school year. So far, the cameras have been used for photo journals, self portaraits using photo editing software, claymation, and school digital presentations. Recently, one of our staff member's spouse died, and the students first thought was to produce a book for that teacher with digital art work that they created.
I know that we have barely broken the surface for all of the digital arts projects we will be able to do. The amazing part, is that the students ar ecoming to me with their own project ideas.
You have inspired the students to reach higher, to challenge their own creative abilities.”

Funded Apr 11, 2010I am so thrilled with the new lighting. We had our first show, and the students were very excited to actually been seen while they were performing. We had always been faced with kids standing in the dark while we were waiting for the gym lights to come on. When they finally came on, the buzzing sound drowned out their voices.
When the lights came on in our last show, the students not only looked great, but you could see how grateful they were that their talents had not gone to waste. The parents were also thrilled and impressed. Many people have asked me how we attained our lights (because our school has no money for these purposes), and I was delighted to tell them that the generosity of people had made this a reality.
Thank you for making this a "bright" future for our school drama program!”

Funded May 4, 2009I am excited to tell you, that after several months, our students have completed the production of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." During the course of the production, we served 350 students and 1,000 community members with our free production. The microphones we received from you saved the day!
With the buzzing of our gym lights, it would have been impossible to hear the speaking parts of our Oompa Loompas, Narrator, and main cast of characters. Because the microphones were wireless, the students could use them at any corner of the gym. This was so important, since this was the first acting experience for many of the students. The microphones added the needed amplification to make their every line crystal clear.
We plan to continue using the microphones in further activities. Just recently, we had a math carnival, and the microphones were most helpful. We have a talent show planned later on this spring and we have another production for next Winter (Wizard of Oz). All of these experiences were made possible by you--U.S. Cellular. Students are still talking about your generosity. Thank you for making this a successful show for our students.”
