These well-respected and reviewed diverse literature options will provide my students with the opportunity to explore a wide range of texts spearheaded by diverse protagonists and fueled by culturally reflective plots. I aim to use these texts as literature circle options for my 9th and 10th grade students so that students can not only read these diverse stories, but they can also discuss the significance of these stories with one another. These books will help foster discussion around concepts like how though we as humans may have a lot of differences, we are not as different from one another as we may think; how there are worlds within our world that we may not have considered before, yet they all matter. These diverse literature circles will provide a rich atmosphere for students to grow in their understanding of the world, each other, and themselves. So often the same single narratives seem to be pushed at our kids, and being that many of our kids do not relate to these commonly pushed single narratives, I believe it is our duty to expose them to literature of all cultures and backgrounds in the hopes that they can see bits and pieces of themselves represented in the pages they read.
