  • Top-of-the-Line Air Filters for My Classroom

    Funded Aug 25, 2020

Thank you so much for your generous support to this project. It is tragic that we have to reach out for basic safety precautions, but I am so grateful to have community to support us!! I hope to be able to share some images from the classroom sometime soon. Stay safe everyone!”

    With gratitude,

  • 3D Printing in Geometry Class

    Funded Apr 8, 2015

Thank you so much for your help in funding this project. It could not have come at a better time -- I am excited for the students to be able to print waving sine bracelets as part of our upcoming Trigonometric Functions unit.

Also, a student in class recently designed a three dimensional graph that represents a game that we played in class related to Quadratic Functions. As soon as she learned about the 3-dimensional graph, her first questions was "Can we print this?"

    I will post pictures!”

    With gratitude,

  • Manipulatives Kit

    Funded Jan 14, 2008

Thank you so much for funding this manipulatives kit. You've funded this with perfect timing! When the new semester starts in February, we will begin our "Quadratic Functions" unit. A large part of this unit involves factoring quadratic functions, and the algebra tiles that are included are so necessary to visualizing the process of factoring. Now, my students will be able to actually experience working with these tiles rather than just watching the model of the teacher using them or taking turns one at a time. Again, thank you so much.

  • An LCD Projector to Help Students Visualize Mathematics

    Funded Sep 27, 2006

I am so excited to hear that you have funded the LCD projector for our classroom. This gift comes at a wonderful time. During the first two weeks of school this year I was able to borrow one from the school. However, it has become increasingly more difficult recently as many of the teachers want to use the equipment. I have noticed a change in my students and things were much better when we had the projector. I am so happy we will be able to have one regularly now.

Thank you so much for helping us,

    Kate ”

The fundamental aim of our school is to teach students to use their minds well and prepare them to lead productive, socially useful, and personally satisfying lives. The school's academic program stresses intellectual development and political/social involvement in our society. Five "habits of mind" are stressed: (1) helping students learn to critically examine evidence (2) to be able to see the world through multiple viewpoints - to step into other shoes (3) to make connections and see patterns (4) to imagine alternatives (What if? What else?); and finally, (5) to ask, "What difference does it make? Who cares?" These five are at the heart of all our work, along with sound work habits and care and concern for others: habits of work and heart. The curriculum affirms the central importance of students learning how to learn, how to reason, and how to investigate complex issues that require collaboration, personal responsibility and a tolerance for uncertainty.
