• Building a Classroom Library

  We are so excited to have had a new addition to our classroom library this year. We were able to add culturally responsive chapter books in our library, where the stories and characters are reflective of the students' lives and experiences.

  Each student had a "book baggie" in which they were able to take out their favorite books from the classroom library and read them at school and at home.

  The students LOVED to read their books and could not stop reading. Best of all, they engaged in book club discussions and carried their learning beyond their reading.

• Back to School Learning Materials

  Making a full return to in-person learning was not easy, but we made it through with your help! Thank you for providing our large class the learning materials needed to start and end the school year. Whether it was donating highlighters to help our reading techniques, pencils to express our ideas, or anchor chart paper to collaborate in our work, each of these items contributed to their learning and academic achievements.

• Bringing Literacy to the South Bronx

  THANK YOU so much for your support in this project and bringing the gift of literacy to my students.

  All the materials have arrived and we put them to immediate use! The students were so excited to use the hands-on centers and games to practice their phonics and sight words. Through hands-on activities, students were able to be motivated and engaged in their learning.

  In just a couple of weeks of having these materials, I have seen an improvement in their decoding skills, but most importantly, their increased confidence and motivation for literacy.

• Safe and Clean Classroom!

  With your love and support, I am able to ensure that students are coming in next week to a safe and clean classroom!

  With city-wide budget cuts, schools are limited in the cleaning supplies and resources that they can give. It is important to have students' materials and the classroom cleaned periodically to ensure that everyone is safe!

  Using the disinfecting sprays, we will be able to clean our desks periodically as well as use the facial tissues to provide extra sanitary support.

  Students will be able to use these materials at home as they engage in online/hybrid learning. As visual and kinesthetic learners , these materials will help them to better engage with the online learning platform and make learning hands-on.

  The care packages include:

  - Writing materials (highlighters, pencils, pencil sharpener)

  - Math Manipulatives (base-ten blocks, rulers)

  - Dry Erase Boards and Markers

  - Art Materials (crayons, markers, glue sticks)

• Diverse Classroom Library

  My students absolutely LOVE their new books. Weeks later and they still show the same excitement when they open a book!

  They always ask to have independent reading time. They love to read together and share their learning. They read with a partner and at times, a student volunteers to read for the whole class. They truly enjoy reading and learning together. It definitely has united the class in a beautiful way.
