Bouncing All Over: Get Us on the Playground!
Funded Jan 30, 2015Thank you again for the playground equipment you have helped contribute to our classroom. Me and my students were excited about it all from the moment we saw it arrive. Students are constantly asking when we will go outside to play soccer, basketball, baseball, etc. They just want to get outside and play! We have taken advantage of all the equipment and I have even been encouraged to purchase other small things like frisbees, jump ropes, and a bigger soccer ball.
So far we have gotten to take multiple trips to practice hitting the soft baseballs in small groups and then have some baseball games on the diamond outside where those who struggle to hit just set up our tee you provided us and hit away. We have also taken the basketballs out to practice drills with and have shooting competitions. Moreover, we've used the soccer nets and field markers to set up the play yard for a few soccer games. We've even had a game of ultimate Frisbee. I cannot help but also mention that the kids take individual balls out daily at Recess and Lunch times to play with, especially when our other balls have gotten flat. The additional balls have truly saved them from being unable to play.
The ability to go and play multiple sports outside has allowed for many of the students to stand out in sports they are experts in; such as, basketball and soccer. Other students have become more confident in participating in games outside because they see how well they can do. Many of them are more eager to participate in physical activities now. I look forward to sharing the equipment with colleagues and students to come!”

Help us Renew and Revamp Our Classroom Library!
Funded Jan 28, 2015Thank you again for your support in helping improve our classroom library!
I have taken time since receiving the materials you helped provide to reinforce classroom dictionaries and worn books with a vinyl covering. Moreover, I have used dot labels to color code books from 2nd grade reading levels to 6th grade and higher. In doing so, I have organized books in baskets by their grade level reading levels for ease of finding a 'just right' book to read. Our new bigger baskets you provided have been stacked to the side of our class book shelves and are now being used to house reading series of books.
All students have been eager to get into the library as they have watched me revamp it. They have even volunteered their own time to help label and organize any incoming classroom books so that they can begin reading them. I cannot keep them out of the library long enough before they ask if they can have time to read there. They continue finding new exciting books they didn't realize were in there because it was just too jam packed before. I can honestly say my students are reading through multiple books every week.
This project has allowed me to make this library more welcoming, engaging, and kid friendly for these students and years of children that will continue passing through it. I hope for it to continue encouraging children reading at any level to find a book that makes them want to continue reading, learning ,and growing.”
