My students are developing energy efficient and resource conserving Cities of the Future. They are currently using Sim City Software and four old donated laptops from 2003. I have 8 groups of students in each class who would be respectfully trying to share these four laptops and it will not work very well. At this time, leading students are using the software to learn about city planning and engineering, as they design and build their cities, however, they only get access for one hour each week as the laptops are slow, shared, and older than the students. By gaining 4 more (modern) laptops, they will double the amount of time on the project each week, and we will be able implement the Sustainable City Challenge to the rest of the students and enable them to finish city development and model building by the end of the year. Students are trying to develop sustainable cities that produce their own energy and food, and clean their own air and water. It is a very exciting project that is sure to engage students in solving tomorrow's problems for today's future.
