Diverse is one of many words that describes my second grade students. My students come from rural and urban areas. They come from different cultures with different values, poverty stricken neighborhoods, and the countryside. My students are adventurous, intelligent, witty, imaginative, and resourceful. Unity is what I strive to teach in my classroom. They are an eclectic group of individuals that have learned to work together even when their opinions vary. My students work as a team to meet individual and team goals. We work cooperatively and learn from each other. My students are intrigued at the possibilities of being so engrossed in a book that you become part of the characters and their adventures. I want them to be able to learn from characters' experiences and the morals that are rooted into the storyline. "Books are a passport to all kinds of knowledge, intelligence and wisdom," Dr. T. P. Chia.
