  • My Students Need Art in Their Lives

    Funded Nov 10, 2021

Thank you for your donation to my project. The art supplies are not only such a treat for us to have, my students absolute glee in using the colored pencils, oil pastels and chalk pastels is so much fun to watch!

They want to use them all the time, which only means that I have to come up with more creative ways for the students to express their learning!

So far, we have used the art supplies to enhance our knowledge of the geography, religion, achievements, politics, economy and social structure of Ancient Egypt. We have also drawn and illustrated our names in hieroglyphics. I can't wait to find new ways to bring these supplies to live through my students creativity!

    Thank you again!”

I am absolutely ecstatic that this project got funded! Thank you so much! I am new to middle school and as much as I love it, I miss teaching art and I'm discovering many ways to incorporate art and social studies! I had to make this happen and... thank you! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to give my students the gift of art.”

  • Bringing Bill Nye into the classroom!

    Funded Aug 24, 2014

I want to take a moment to thank you for your generosity. This project was funded just before I went on medical leave. I couldn't wait to get back to my classroom and dive into science because I FINALLY have a complete set of 5th grade Bill Nye science videos. I have been teaching 5th grade for 8 years, and in those 8 years, I never had access to all of the videos I needed.

My students were excited when I showed them the videos. Bill Nye has a long and wonderful history in elementary schools and they couldn't wait to start watching them! We started with the Energy video to give the students the background knowledge that they needed for a Language Arts/Science Lesson we were working on. The students were glued to the screen while the we were watching the video (I love them too). When we started our reading, they were prepared to handle the content because they saw the video!

I plan on using the videos as either pre-teaching or to reinforce what we are learning. The students love them, so I don't have to worry about them not being engaged during the video and they never mind watching them more than once. (I get a lot out of them too!) I now have a resource readily available to me that will help educate students for years to come.

    Happy New Year!”

  • Math- It's in the Cards, Just Roll the Dice

    Funded Aug 23, 2014

I want to thank you for your generous gift. I had just gone on medical leave when this project was funded and I couldn't wait to return to school to get the dice and games in the students hands.

The dice activities were the first thing I opened upon my return. The students were excited and I was ecstatic. They were intrigued by how different the dice looked. They had never seen multi-sided (more than 6 sides) dice, or dice within a dice before. I immediately dug into the dice games book and started teaching them games from it. They couldn't get enough of the activities. Even my reluctant math students played the games. The students didn't even realize they were practicing addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

I leave the dice out in-between teaching them more activities from the books, They love how open ended the games are and, especially how they can tailor the games to match their math abilities. I also love that as long as they have a couple of die or a deck of cards, they can play these games anywhere!

This also applies to the card games as well. I have always kept decks of cards around the classroom, and I have always had a couple of regular games I taught the students. However, this book truly takes using the cards to teach or reinforce or practice to the next level...they can work on anything from addition to fractions and even more!

I hope you have a wonderful New Year and thank you again!”

  • Let's get Lost in Classic Literature!!!

    Funded Aug 12, 2014

Thank you so much for your generous gift. You funded the project just before I went on medical leave. I could not wait to go back to work and get the books into the hands of the students.

The students were very excited about the books. When I returned to the classroom, we read the summaries on the back of each book, and I told them a little bit about each book as well (mostly amazing memories about reading The Little Prince when I was their age). They are looking forward to reading a BOOK as apposed to a story within an anthology, which is our Language Art routine. I can't tell you what it does to my heart to build book memories for them.

We decided to start with Bud, Not Buddy because they were literally hooked from the first page (see what I mean...it's amazing to be a part of those experiences!). That book is chalk full of academic potential. We are using it as an example of figurative language in an actual piece of literature. We will also look at story structure, summarizing, and parts of speech in the future, and all in one cohesive piece of literature.

The students are going to get so much out of this and it is all thanks to you and your generosity!

    Happy New Year!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Daniels

  • The Giving Easel

    Funded Oct 22, 2012

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for your generous support. My instructional aide and I are able to work more effectively with students in a small group setting. My instructional aide and I are now able to work with them on comprehension during small group instruction time more closely. The students are able to see the board and follow along with the lesson. I know, without a doubt in my mind, that my small group math instruction is more effective than ever.

The students are so happy to have the table top easels that I sent all their thank you letters to you. They all have examples at the kidney table using the easel that have impacted their education.

Your generosity has made a real difference for my students.”

I want to take this time to personally thank you for your generous gift. This class (and many classes to come) will get great use out of the white boards. I have already planned math and vocabulary activities that can take place immediately upon arrival. These boards are a great resource!
