I love "Aha! moments". A science teaching class I took once had the teachers modeling moon phases with Styrofoam balls and as I was walking around a light bulb with this ball at the end of my pencil--I suddenly GOT IT. I think before that, if pressed, I could have named the phases of the moon and what they look like; and I'm sure that before getting up out my seat I probably thought this was a mostly fun but juvenile activity for someone who had taken college level astronomy coursework. But it all of the sudden made sense 3-dimensionally for the first time. I loved that. And more importantly, it taught me how important it is for students to have similar experiences in my classroom.
