  • Fulfill Our Fifth Grade Fantasy For Flutes!

    Funded Mar 20, 2016

Last week, I presented each of my fourth grade music students with their own flute. I cannot express how delighted and touched each one of them was. Although we have our work cut out for us, you can see from the smiles on their faces that they can't wait to begin this journey.

Already, students are bringing flutes to and from home each day, asking their parents to sign their practice sheets, and showing more enthusiasm than I ever dreamed they would have to learn this new instrument.

Your contribution has made so many students feel so happy and engaged in school. Thank you for helping to create a new generation of flutists!”

  • Get Hooked On A Music Book

    Funded Jun 4, 2016

When school started this year, it was so amazing to have a new collection of books to start with my elementary school aged children! In particular, "Music Class Today" made a big impact with my new Kindergarten students as it is about a little boy who is too shy to join in music class and sing and dance. By the end of the story, he finds he is ready to do this. The book launched a great class discussion about how sometimes the Kindergarten students had those feelings too. Then we proceeded to have a fabulous class with a 100% participation!

The most popular book so far is "Never Play Music Right Next to The Zoo" which is making all of the Kindergarten, First, and Second grade students laugh. Used with the accompanying CD, they are learning about the different sounds of the orchestra while hearing a hilarious story.

Thank you so much! These books are already so very cherished and bringing joy to so many children.”

  • No Strings Attached (To Our Guitars)!

    Funded Jan 28, 2015

Thank you for choosing to donate to our music classroom! Your thoughtfulness has allowed more children to have more playing time on the guitar and makes a big difference every day.

My guitar students are now all able to have their own guitar each session instead of working in pairs. Having a limited number of fully functioning guitars had really hurt their access so the gift of these strings has been a game changer. Your gift will extend beyond this school year and will let us hit the ground running with new guitar students in September.

Thank you for supporting student musicians! It means so much to us.”

  • And All That Jazz: Workshop For Fifth Grade Guitarists

    Funded Dec 29, 2014

Thank you for giving my fifth grade guitar students the incredible gift of the guitar workshop. I cannot stress how much guitar has boosted their confidence and excitement for school so getting to experience something as enriching as working with a jazz master really empowered them.

Thanks to your generosity, these students had an opportunity to begin to learn a new technique of guitar playing. I hope that the experience helps to continue a deep love of listening to and playing music that will last for many years to come.

Thank you for choosing to support these students! They are so very grateful.”

  • "M" Is For Mozart: Promoting Literacy Through Music

    Funded Jun 30, 2014

Thank you so much for your incredible addition to our music library. The new books have been a big hit and the children truly enjoy reading these music filled stories as a group and as individuals.

When I showed my first class the book "Puff the Magic Dragon" while playing the CD, my students were mesmerized. Almost immediately, I noticed lyrics from the song infiltrating their vocabulary. It has become the most requested story in the music library but isn't the only popular one. Particularly around Halloween, EVERYONE was very taken with "Dry Bones," which features cut out pages that expose different parts of the human skeleton. These are only two examples of the many engaging stories all of my students now have access to.

Thank you so much for thinking about us! We are loving these materials and use them each day.”

  • Beethoven Lives Upstairs...and We Want to Visit!

    Funded Aug 23, 2014

Thank you so much for donating to our music program. My students were delighted to receive these materials and have enjoyed them immensely.

My students were absorbed into 19th century Vienna while watching "Beethoven Lives Upstairs." Although they had learned about Beethoven and knew how he had overcome his deafness, watching this DVD gave them a more thorough understanding about the challenges of having a disability in that era. They were also very excited to watch "Stomp Out Loud" and see New York City taken over by musicians who could turn everyday objects into percussion. Viewing it was a perfect ending to our percussion unit and they ask if they can see it again almost daily.

These materials have enhanced my music lessons tremendously by giving the students a visual representation to back up what I teach them. Thank you so much for your generosity.”

  • Middle School Chorus Needs Sheet Music!

    Funded May 23, 2014

Thank you all so much for donating to my chorus. The four songs we requested and received will be performed in our Winter Concert this coming December. When the boxes arrived, I showed my chorus members the pieces inside and they were very excited. We sang through the two-part arrangement of "Let It Go" from Frozen and it was so amazing to see how my students responded to reading the notation meant for their voice part. I know that all of the chorus members look forward to September when we can begin rehearsing for the concert in earnest.

Most public schools have sheet music collections for their chorus programs to utilize and it is unfortunate the our school does not have these resources. However, thanks to your generosity, my students will get to experience these important tools. Thank you for supporting us.”

  • Unfunded Chorus Needs Supplies

    Funded Dec 26, 2013

My students were very excited when we received our beautiful new chorus folders. Right away multiple children mentioned to me that now it looks like they are part of a "real chorus." Although it is quite a way off, several children have also expressed enthusiasm about using them for our annual Christmas tree lighting in our local park because now they will look like carolers.

We are using these folders every week in our choral rehearsals and they have helped the students keep their music organized and positively impacted their level of professionalism. The folders have boosted student learning by improving the morale of the chorus and making all the participants feel like they are part of a serious ensemble.

Thank you for giving to this project and turning my chorus into better performers. They love their folders and proudly use them each week in rehearsal.”

  • Madly in the Mood for a Metallophone!

    Funded Apr 18, 2014

Thank you for generously donating so that we could get this gorgeous metallaphone. Since we were lucky enough to receive a beautiful Orff xylophone in March, my third and fourth grade recorder students have been eager to play an accompaniment on it while the rest of the ensemble plays melodies and harmonies on the recorder. Now that we have added this metallaphone into the mix, the excitement and complexity of the accompaniment parts are growing at a rapid rate.

I have learned that my students love to express themselves musically and that this metallaphone has proven to be an exceptional tool. Thank you so much for giving it to my students. You have no idea how much they love having it.”

  • Drumming Up Some Excitement!

    Funded Mar 16, 2014

I wish all of you generous donors could have seen the expression on the faces of my students when they walked in and saw this gorgeous drum set all assembled and waiting to be played. They have never been more excited. The addition of these drums to my music classroom has truly enhanced student learning. Suddenly, ensemble playing has a whole new meaning and my students as young as 2nd graders and as old as 8th graders are motivated to accompany their classes as the rhythm section.

Thank you so much for donating to this project. I hope that this drum set lasts us many years. Every single day, students show up before school, during lunch, and after school begging to play them for just a moment. The excitement that the drum set has generated is palpable and a blessing to witness.”
