Funded Oct 16, 2019Thank you again for the donation of our document cameras. They have been a valuable resource for many different classes in numerous ways. For example, we have used them in Writer's Cafe, our morning writing tutoring program, where students are able to showcase and display their writing so their peers can see and help critique and revise it. In Language Arts class, students are able to display their writing samples during Author's Showcase. The students have also used them in Science class to take a closer look at some of the models used during their experiments, display their student work for their classmates, and look at different images found in books. We have also used them in Math class where the teacher is able to display manipulatives and visual and tactile objects.
It is without question that our document camera makes the lessons more engaging and hands-on, but it also provides equal access to learning and lesson to all our children. Most of our classes have very diverse learners with many different learning styles. When we use it in our lessons, for example, we are more likely to reach that student who is still learning English because we can provide them with a visual, or the student with a disability may just need to both "see" and "hear" their peers' writing.
Have there been students who have warmed to this new technology? Absolutely! It may seem silly, but you can just see the sense of exitement in the students when it is their work that is chosen to be displayed. Before, students were always reluctant to share their work, but now they jump at the opportunity to be chosen. There just isn't something more rewarding than watching a student swell with pride when they see their hard work showcased. So, needless to say, our classes will never be the same. We can't survive without our document camera!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Gonzalez
