Children, like adults, are individuals. Individuals who learn and grow differently. In my 11 years of being an educator, I have found that more and more children come to school each day with the wiggles. I have watched them attempt to work in traditional desks and chairs and for many years, accepted this as the only choice. Flexible Seating was the BEST decision I have ever made as an educator. This past year, I explored the idea of Flexible Seating in my first grade classroom. More than half of my class was struggling to work independently and disrupting their peers in the process, all because they weren't comfortable in their work space. I started with yoga balls in crates so that they wouldn't roll everywhere, kneeling tables with rugs, standing tables, and cushioned stools. My students were so in love with their options and were more excited than ever to get to work. I saw confidence, focus, and scores increase. I also received such positive feedback from my classroom parents. Their children came home so eager to tell them about their daily seating choices! I am looking for donations to purchase yoga balls, donut chairs, stools, a kneeling table with pads (so the kiddos do not hurt their knees), mini desk bikes to pedal while working, and a few wobble chairs - These seating options will make my students comfortable and eager to work - If a child is comfortable in their skin, they will excel. If a child cannot get comfortable in their work space, they cannot be comfortable in their skin. Please consider helping to fund my project so my students can have sturdy, reliable flexible seating options. They are the voices of tomorrow, let's help them to learn in comfortable confidence today!
