I am requesting items to build my STEAM curriculum. STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. I believe STEAM will enhance the cooperative learning classroom that I strive to create. During STEAM education activities, my students collaborate with peers in a mistake-proof environment where creativity and ingenuity are fostered. This allows students to build confidence in themselves and their abilities. The hands-on building kits in my proposal, including the Log Builders, I Can Build It Construction Planks, Stack Create Builders, Design Builders, Magnetic Designer, Slot-A-Shape Builders, Geostix, House Building Engineering Center, and Vehicle Building Engineering Center, will enhance the science and engineering aspects of STEAM. The art component will be strengthened through the use of the Textured Rubbing Mats, Giant Stencil Set, Rubbing Crayons, and Lower Case Alphabet Stampers. In the area of math, I am requesting Easy-Read Rulers, Geoboards, and Rubber Bands to compliment my supply of math materials.
STEAM education can be taught to students of all ability levels. Students can work together in teams to find solutions. All of the items that I have selected have been chosen with my students in mind as I have watched them interact and use their creative thinking throughout the school year. In light of COVID-19, the number of materials I am requesting will allow multiple students to utilize the items to create simultaneously while following safety protocols. The Privacy Partitions can be used to offer an additional measure of protection when COVID-19 cases rise and more safety measures are needed.
