Instead of the old school fitness testing, the focus in physical education class has become movement. With a 55 minute class schedule, how many minutes can I get my students moving? How can I get students moving? While physical activity does improve fitness, it can also reduce stress, improve sleep, prevent heart disease, and change a person's lifestyle. At KMS we take pride in making physical education a safe, interactive, and engaging place to learn and move. New skills and a variety of sports are taught, along with games and activities. Students are encouraged to step out of their comfort zone, and trust the process of putting forth effort. Students gain confidence, and grow socially as they learn how to participate in a sport, with peers. One of the best ways to get students moving and working together in groups, is through instant activities. These are short activities and sports games that have quick instructions, and usually result in an elevated heart rate plus lots of laughter. Students are exercising with friends, but don't feel the pressure! Gator balls and bean bags can be used for hundreds of instant activities and sports. Students can create their own games, when given the opportunity to explore with sports equipment.
