This has been the year of all years! So many things to juggle when trying to teach online, and now we have returned to on campus but hybrid learning. Who would have know that teachers would be having to juggle so much and pushing themselves even farther than they had been before?!
I want to thank the donors for making it possible to use two screens for teaching through the Zoom platform. The district-provided laptops have very small screens, which make it very difficult to see my students, and also to navigate teaching through Chrome and Zoom at the same time. Having two screens makes this infinitely easier, especially for my tired eyes!
Thanks again for supporting teachers and students through this uncharted territory!”

I want to express how grateful I am in being able to shop through the Teachers Pay Teachers website. The funding toward these gift cards gives me the opportunity to pick and choose activities and resources that work for my students, and at a pace that works for me.
There are so many different things to choose from on Teachers Pay Teachers, and I enjoy going through and putting ones on my wishlist until I decide whether those resources will fit within our learning trajectory or not.
Bonus that this project was fully funded on my birthday!
Thanks so much for helping support my students during distance learning and beyond!”

Teaching biomimicry is a tricky topic for younger students. They often just recreate something that already exists. We worked patiently to show many examples and talk about lots of inventions and creations that mimic the natural world. The books in this project were a great resource for this exploration. The students enjoyed the work that we did, and I enjoyed having them share their work with me and with each other.
Teaching STEAM online has been tricky. Normally, when on site, we do hands on building and creating, and we have not been able to do that. The kids came up with some great plans though!
Thank you for helping out my class. We are coming back to in-person learning, and we will continue to make sure of the resources from this project!”
It is hard to believe that it has really been over a year since we entered into distance learning and working online. It has been a very challenging year to say the least. Using the resources that students are familiar with brings a sense of normalcy to a very unusual year, and BrainPop Jr. is one of those resources.
BrainPop Jr. allows us to explore science topics in a fun and entertaining way. It also includes, quizzes, games, and other supplemental activities that help make teaching easier.
Now we are getting ready to open back up for in-person learning and we will continue to use BrainPop Jr. as we return to a semi-normal learning situation.
Thank you so much for helping us get through this year!”

Generation Genius has already greatly impacted our classroom! We have switched gears and have been building the lessons and activities around this fantastic resource. It is engaging, focused on Next Generation Science Standards, and has additional activities and games that my students can you to extend their learning.
It has also made my teaching and planning much more streamlined. I was spending hours and hours creating lessons from scratch - which I like to do - but Generation Genius has cut that time considerably without taking away from the science learning. I will be making the most of this while I still have access over the next year!
Thank you so much for your generosity and commitment to schools and children!”

This drawing tablet has come in handy for drawing with the students, even though we are online. It is much easier for the students to see than using my document camera. I am still discovering the different uses that this tool has for delivering online instruction. While streaming or broadcasting, I can use the stylus and a tablet to mark on presentations or student work, or annotate images or files.
In my STEAM lab, we do a lot of drawing of models and diagrams. The tablet is a great tool for bringing modeling to life while working with students.
Thank you so much for your contribution to my classroom, especially during these difficult times for both students and teachers.”

I want to acknowledge and thank all of the donors to this project for their contribution to my classroom. Nature journaling is something that I have always wanted to do myself, and is the perfect assignment for life science that students can easily do on their own while learning from home. It also inspires creativity, enhances observation skills, and helps to build language skills. Additionally - it gives us an excuse to draw and try watercolor!
We have become so enamored with nature journaling, that we have decided to extend our learning to a club format for those that choose to participate.
Thank you for your dedication to schools and children.”

I want to give a very heartfelt and grateful thank you for making this possible. I am getting ready to distribute our mini microscopes to 300 of or students! Originally, I was going to limit the dispersal to third, fourth, and fifth grades, but will be able to extend that down to second graders as well!
The Foldscopes will not only help the students with practicing science skills, but additionally will encourage family involvement. We will be going over the building directions virtually, and then will send the students to investigate the microscopic world around them.
Thanks again for supporting schools and children.”

I want to give a huge and heart felt thank you to Sonic and to SDG&E for making it possible to supply my STEAM classroom with some wonderful and engaging equipment. I am looking forward to using the green screen with students to create fun and interesting videos, and possibly inspire some future filmmakers.
We have already made use of the microscope to investigate the details of plants, flowers, and insects, while also practicing nature journaling skills. The students are very fascinated with the microscope views, and it even prompted some students to get their own for home use!
Your help is so greatly appreciated, especially during this time of uncertainty.”

I teach science to all grades, TK-5, at our small elementary school. The students come to the Science Lab once a week for 1 hour or more each visit. Our school has a wide range of students in its population. We serve neighborhood children, military families, and students from areas of higher poverty that ride the bus to our school by choice. We have many cultures represented on our campus, free and reduced lunch for a little over half of our population, and a strong military family representation. Many of our students have a parent deployed. While our elementary classrooms focus on all academic areas, including science, the Science Lab is dedicated to the enrichment and enjoyment of both science and engineering, and challenges students to be flexible and creative problem solvers.
