  • STEAM Up With Cricut

    Funded May 8, 2019

Thank you so much for funding projects during the teacher appreciation week! Woke up to really great news that my Cricut project was funded, along with others. The students and I have not had an opportunity yet to try it out, as we are so close to the end of the school year. But I showed them several videos on what the Cricut does and how it works. They are very hyped up about the possibilities and look forward to using it when we come back to school in the fall.

What is great about my job is that I see all of the kids in my school, so I can start building excitement for the year to come - they will be back in my room every year!

Thank you for funding STEM/STEAM education! I have the best job ever!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Allard's STEAM Lab

  • STEAM Powered With Microsoft Surface Go

    Funded May 8, 2019

I posted two projects on DonorsChoose for Microsoft Surface Gos along with accessories. My classroom is not provided technology by my district, and I have had to find other means for gathering up technology for my STEAM classroom. The Microsoft Surface Gos will help my students explore creative avenues for expression, practice coding and programming, create projects for production, and more.

The students are looking forward to getting to use the tablet and computer-in-one, and for trying their hand at using the stylus as a drawing tool!

    Thanks again!”

  • STEAM Up with Microsoft Surface Go

    Funded May 8, 2019

The funded of this project is really exciting to my students and to me, as the teacher. Our district does not fund technology for my classroom, so I am always scrambling to add resources that the students can use. The Microsoft Surface Go and accessories help to fill that gap. Students will be able to use the tablets for research, coding, programming, and other creative endeavors. We look forward to finding more uses for our Surfaces.

Thanks again for making this project possible and for supporting STEAM classrooms!”

  • Ozobot Obsession Part Three

    Funded May 13, 2019

This is the THIRD letter I am sending in a series of three!

As I mentioned in my previous two letters, Ozobots has become my science lab classroom's obsession - hence the name of my three projects! We have done activities to find the colors that the Ozobots like, and the ones they don't like. We have practiced coding using the markers and color charts, we have tried using the Ozoblockly program, we have tried to help "Luke get to the Death Star" (and Ozobot puzzle), and we have played a version of the game Monopoly called Ozopoly.

We will keep finding new stuff to do with them!

Thank you again for being such an wonderful company to quintuple-match for teachers!”

    With gratitude,

  • Ozobot Obsession Part Two

    Funded May 13, 2019

This is the second letter I am sending in a series of three!

As I mentioned in my previous letter, Ozobots have been a huge hit in our classroom. So much so, that I had to create several more projects on DonorsChoose for bringing more into my classroom. This project was the second in a series of three that I posted and was ecstatic that I could continue to bring more Ozobots into my science lab.

After using them for several weeks and expecting to move on, the kids are still asking to use them more. The additional Ozobots will allow for smaller group use and less waiting.

Thank you again for being such an fantastic company to quintuple-match for teachers!”

  • Ozobot Obsession - Part One

    Funded May 13, 2019

Ozobots have been a huge hit in our classroom. So much so, that I had to create several more projects on DonorsChoose for bringing more into my classroom. This project was the first in a series of three that I posted and was thrilled when all three of them were funded in a very short amount of time.

We have been using the Ozobots for several weeks, and just when I thought that we would be able to move on to something new, the kids are still asking to continue using them. The additional Ozobots will allow for smaller group use and less waiting.

Thank you again for being such an awesome company to quintuple-match for teachers!”

  • To the Rescue

    Funded Mar 13, 2019

My students have been so enthusiastic with some other engineering and technology projects that we have extended them beyond what I originally planned. I may have to wait and use the Bubble Phenomenon and Rescue EIE kits as my openers for the fall!

I really appreciate the donors and the match sponsors for making it possible to add some more resources and new activities for my students to try. I always like to keep our projects fresh and engaging, and I couldn't do that without the helps of sponsors like you!”

  • The Phenomenon of Bubbles

    Funded Mar 1, 2019

Let me start by saying that we have not had a chance to get to this project quite yet. My students have been so enthusiastic with some other engineering and technology projects that we have extended them beyond what I originally planned. I may have to wait and use the Bubble Phenomenon and Rescue EIE kits as my openers for the fall!

  • Oh So Fun Ozobots - Robotics for All

    Funded Mar 1, 2019

Even before we took the Ozobots out to try, the students were eagerly anticipating using them. Recently I conducted a student interest survey of my 2nd-5th graders. This included many areas of life science, engineering, art, technology, and robotics. The Ozobots were at the top of the list!

This is the first week that we have used them, and the students were super excited, and I loved watching them problem solve how to get the Ozobots to do what they intended. I look forward to giving them many different, and increasingly difficult challenges! I am confident that they will soon be teaching ME what all they can do!

Thank you so much for supporting the Science Lab.”

  • Supply Stash and Store for Science

    Funded Dec 11, 2018

Thank you for helping us out with some basic STEAM-powered supplies! Sometimes it is the basics that we forget are really crucial to our success. We have been using the new clipboards frequently, and they fit much better in our classroom than our old ones. We also have less snapped fingers. That's a bonus.

Our tape dispensers definitely come in handy when we do engineering builds. Sometimes our youngest students have trouble pulling masking tape off the rolls. If truth be told, sometimes the teacher has that problem too. :-)

We have already filled many of our bins with Legos and other engineering supplies. Again, than you so much for caring about our classroom!”

I teach science to all grades, TK-5, at our small elementary school. The students come to the Science Lab once a week for 1 hour or more each visit. Our school has a wide range of students in its population. We serve neighborhood children, military families, and students from areas of higher poverty that ride the bus to our school by choice. We have many cultures represented on our campus, free and reduced lunch for a little over half of our population, and a strong military family representation. Many of our students have a parent deployed. While our elementary classrooms focus on all academic areas, including science, the Science Lab is dedicated to the enrichment and enjoyment of both science and engineering, and challenges students to be flexible and creative problem solvers.
