Bust Out the Basics!
Funded Dec 5, 2019I want to thank everyone who contributed to this project. and to Quill for doing a match. We have made great use of the battery charger for charging up our engineering kits and getting them ready for use. You can see the non-electronic parts of our kits in the photos that I posted. We are building up toward incorporating the electronics and coding with these kits. Since I have over 400 kids that come through my room, we will definitely be going through a lot of battery use! It is fantastic that I can just reuse these instead of having to restock multiple times.
In addition to that, I have used almost all of the sheet protectors already! The sheet protectors are fantastic for keeping instructions and work mats neat and organized, and also makes for good erasable and reusable student response sheets.
The kids are looking forward to when we will start doing some painting and clay projects in the future. It will be a good spring in my STEAM Lab! Thanks again.”

Funded Dec 3, 2019Your generosity toward my students and my classroom add immensely to my classroom and my curriculum. I can't tell you what a difference that DonorsChoose, and sponsorship through donations like yours, has made in my ability to teach. Hands on learning is so critical to stretch the brains of children, but the necessary supplies that go along with that are often out of the reach of teachers or schools.
I have big plans for these tablets and their use with my curriculum. They will be less cumbersome than my current laptops, and will lend themselves brilliantly to robotics and coding. The students are super excited and are looking forward to using them!
Thank you again for reaching out to my classroom to brighten our learning!”

Funded Oct 25, 2019My students are super excited about using our new equipment. The cash register especially raised a lot of interest! They are really looking forward to using it as part of our store, and many kids are hoping that they will get to be "hired" as a store clerk. The cash register will be used during our engineering builds, where students will be given a budget and will have to buy the equipment from the "Engineering Emporium" (our engineering supply shelves). They will gain experience in spending wisely and thoughtfully. The storage boxes will also come in handy for stocking our shelves.
In addition to the cash register, they are also excited about the various experiments and crafts that can be created using our toaster oven and the possibility of raising money by selling their creations. Many of them have not heard of "Shrinky Dinks" and are very interested in seeing how they work.
Thank you again for supporting my classroom, and, more importantly, my students!”

Funded Oct 30, 2019We have been needing a basic supplies refresh for quite some time! We had a lot of markers dried out, twist-up colored pencils with no lead, and really needed some multicultural colored markers for when scientists draw themselves!
The kids always get super excited to use new drawing supplies. The big hit in the classroom is always the Mr. Sketch scented markers. It was great that we were able to get sets of 22 - they typically come in sets of 12, so now we have more colors to choose from, and more scents to try out! Super fun! The students and I all agree that Mr. Sketch needs to keep adding new colors and scents!
Thanks so much to everyone that contributed to this project! Our classroom would not be he same without your contribution.”

Funded Oct 30, 2019Thank you for making it possible to bring these supplies to my classroom. We are looking forward to combining the new equipment with the lessons that are in the Picture-Perfect series. There are quite a few lessons involving seeds and birds that I know the students will be excited to participate in - along with other great explorations!
Our boxes have arrived and the kids have been very curious as to how we are going to use all of the equipment. They will get a chance to find out later in the year. I am also planning on combining these lessons with an environmental stewardship focus as well.
Thank you for supporting the teaching of science and engineering in our school. We could not do this without the generosity of contributors like yourselves!”

Funded Oct 29, 2019This is such a meaningful project for me. As a STEAM teacher, the T in STEAM definitely needs some technology to be able to enhance student learning. In my enrichment position, the district does not supply any technology to me classroom, so I am trying to build a class set of tablets for students to use while in my room - 1 smaller project at a time.
These tablets will go a long way toward learning coding, robotics, green screen, stop motion animation - and a lot more uses that we will come up with along the way!!
The students are super excited to start trying them out with our Ozobots!
Thank you for supporting my classroom and my students!”

Tablet-Portation: Tech on the Go, Part 1
Funded Oct 21, 2019My students are very excited to receive these tablets in our classroom! They know that I really enjoy teaching different uses of technology in my classroom, but that I have very limited access to laptops or tablets in my classroom. Our devices are older and used and are good for searching the Internet, but little else.
These tablets are much more useful because they are portable, easy to handle, have many learning apps that can be loaded, and work with several robotics or coding activities that we would like to try. I would also like to explore some green-screen and stop-motion apps as well!
These tablets will get us started in being able to experiment with these uses and will definitely be engaging to my students. They are already excited to try them out!
Thank you for making this possible!”

Have a Seat
Funded Oct 7, 2019My students are really enjoying the new rugs and stools. They have been able to get more comfortable to work in partners or groups in various places around the classroom. I like to be able to give them the opportunity to choose a place to work, which is often hard with large groups of students in a small bungalow!
I also greatly needed the supply bins for our "Engineering Emporium" supplies - our "store" for our engineering builds. I recently purchased some garage shelving to give us more room, and needed those boxes to hold more supplies. I like these bins because they are clear and easy to open and close for the students. They can also easily see what is inside.
Thanks for all that you do to help our students, schools, and teachers!”

Funded Sep 18, 2019I want to thank everyone who gave to this project. I am overwhelmed with gratitude for continuously being supported by the general public and community alike. My students are constantly amazed at what we keep finding in boxes!
The ice maker and electric kettle are a big hit with the students, and will certainly make water experiments so much easier to plan for in the Lab. The kids have been fascinated watching the ice maker work its magic, and we did some temperature testing already - on the first day of set up! We will soon be adventuring on our journey of water.
Thanks again for your contribution to my classroom environment and equipment. I could not create such a meaningful experience for my students without support from my generous donors.”
