Student Technology Hub & Workspace
Funded Mar 9, 2016We cannot thank you enough for your generosity! Your donations have had an impact on all of us. Firstly, the seniors have been using the computer to complete college applications, to work on FASA forms, and to work on Senior thesis papers. Having an extra computer has been extremely helpful and having one accessible to students first has made the college process and school work process easier. It has also made us realize that we need to work on our typing skills (yikes!).
Your computer and the materials that go along with the computer has not only helped the Seniors, it has also helped all the students in our school. Juniors use it to do homework and younger students can be seen playing math and vocabulary games. The location in the computer station/student workspace has opened doors and made it a "happy place" to access learning. We (the students) no longer feel like we have to ask permission to use the technology because this is our space, now it's ours and we can access it, worry-free about anything except getting our learn on.”

Ms. Kai Hansen

Funded Mar 9, 2016The resource you funded have already been hard at work in our classroom.
Last week one of the ICT English classes used the folders and markers to set up their second unit of To Kill a Mockingbird. Today, the students used the markers, both the multi-cultural and regular markers, along with the glue, colored pencils, and colored paper to make posters depicting their group predictions about the verdict of the Tom Robinson case.
In addition to the English class, the ICT Social Studies classes have also accessed the materials you generously donated. Last week the ICT Social Studies classes used the same materials to make WW2 posters! The posters turned out beautifully.
It's fair to say that your resources have already had an amazing impact in just one week. Their impact will continue to inspire, motivate, and enrich the lives of my students.”

Ms. Kai Hansen
Help Students with Disabilities Learn Financial Literacy
Funded Sep 30, 2014There is something about technology that makes learning fun and exciting. Since the introduction of the four new Chromebooks, we have experienced lots of educational exploration n finance, life skills, and academic skills.
They have been used for everyday work; making each lesson interactive so the students can weigh in on the lessons, contribute and take notes on the laptops.
In finance, the student have conducted apartment searches, created budget, learned how to balance a checking account, and calculated APR on credit cards. Additionally, the students have research companies and selected a portfolio of three publicly traded companies. They are tacking the stock market for gains and loses in their individualize portfolios.
Lastly, the computers are used after school nearly everyday. I have students begging me to stay after school every day, simply so they can work on the computers to complete a variety of tasks. The impact is truly remarkable and I love the energy your donations have brought to my class and the school as a whole.
My students and I cannot thank you enough. In addition to my students and myself there are a handful of other teacher who also use the computers for their classes. They would like to thank you also, because the computers are greatly impacting their classes. Your donations have positively impacted their classes in addition to mine.”

Be The Apple Of Our Eye & Help Us Get An iMac
Funded Jul 8, 2014WOW! Our classroom looks like an Apple Store and is the "place to be", or at least that is what the students say. The students can get enough of touching and trying out the new iMac and Mac Air!
It is amazing the draw the items you donated to our class have, students walking by in the hallway now stop and come into room 400 to check out the Apple Station! All asking what they can do to use the new technology.
In addition to making a station in our room to enhance the overall learning for every student, your generous donation is also making it possibly for us to start a graphic design after after-school club! This is something the students have been begging for, and you are making it possible! We will be starting the after-school club in a few weeks. Additionally the students are going to use the technology to enhance the senior yearbook, adding graphics and designing the pages to their specifications, ensuring their high school memories are timeless.
Overall, this technology is helping everyday instruction to foster learning and additionally it is making the entire school more of a community through after-school programs.”

Key to the future? Technology (Part 2)
Funded Mar 22, 2014Thank you so much for you generous donations! Our class received the Chormebooks today and we've already started using them!
In the first day you, (through your donations) taught my students a lesson in connecting laptop computers to a WiFi WEP proxy server network! This was just the first of many lessons using our new laptops :)
(*connecting to a WiFi network may seem simple, but since most of my students do not have Internet at home, it is a valuable lesson/life skill to learn.)
The students were so excited when they came into class and saw a 'present' to unwrap. First they had to guess what was in the box, and then they had the pleasure of unwrapping it to see who was and was not correct. (Some of the guesses included: clothes, money, a printer and food) They were ecstatic when the 'present' turned out to be laptops. One of the girls in the class said, "Oh man, this is better then Christmas!"
Once, again thank you so much for your generous donations and for helping our class integrate technology into our everyday class life. Your donations to this project are not only helping my student develop basic skills (like connecting to a WiFi network), but your donations to this project have helped shed a new light on our history classes. You are helping to make history and learning 'fun' for the kids! It is amazing to seem them get excited about the content and class, just because they are able to contribute to the slides and type their notes in GoogleDocs versus write in a notebook.
Again, we cannot thank you enough! Your donations have enriched our class and will continue too!”

Ms. Kai Hansen

Funded Mar 14, 2014Thank you so much for you generous donations! Our class has been enjoying the Chromebooks and words can't express how they have already impacted out class. The computers arrived on Monday and we have used them every day since!
The students have been participating in interactive lessons, using Google slides and Google documents. We utilize the Chormebooks in various ways during the lesson. For example, today in our freshman history class we were talking about Genghis Khan and Kublai Khan. Part of the interactive lesson was for two of the student to find an image of each great Mongol leader and add it to the presentation slides. The student who completed the task first earned a point for their team. This simple task allows the lesson to be interactive, helps develop research skills, along with basic computer skills (copy and paste). These might be simple skills in your book, but for my students since they don't have computers and don't use them daily (or even weekly) they are not such 'basic' skills.
Your donations to this project are not only helping them develop these skills, but your donations to this project have helped shed a new light on our history classes. You have helped make history and learning 'fun' for the kids! It is amazing to seem them get excited about the content, just because they are able to contribute to the slides.
Again, we cannot thank you enough! Your donations have enriched our class and will continue too!”

Ms. Kai Hansen

Funded Oct 9, 2013Thank you so much for your generous donation! Our class has put the supplies to good use, and we apologize for not sending you a thank you sooner. We've been to immersed in project based learning and forgot all about it!
How did we use the supplies? The supplies have gone to use in a variety of ways. A project that springs to mind when almost all the supplies were used (paper, poster board, and markers) is the 'Theme Poster Project' the students recently did. The students made poster-boards on a variety of Global History topics, some of the topics included: The French Revolution, Scientific Revolution, The Enlightenment, and the Latin American Revolutions. The purpose of the project is for students to link themes and commonalities between the events in history. For example, Revolutions are often caused when there is a disparity between groups of peoples. The students used the poster board to present their information highlighting the themes of each event to draw parallels. For this assignment they worked in pairs, putting their brainpower, notebooks, and creativity together.
So how were the supplies used in this project? Well the poster-board helped the students present their information, the markers allowed the students to make their projects aesthetically pleasing, and the colored paper also allowed students to make their posters aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
Once their projects were complete we had a gallery walk, in which each student had to answer the questions posed by the poster. This was to assess the posters relevance, and to give a grade to the group who made the poster. The groups picked one Regents question on their topic, and the question had to be answerable based on the information on the poster, but the groups could not state the answer (that would be cheating!) anywhere explicitly on the poster. The students participated in the gallery walk, using post-it notes to answer the question. Needless to say the students were able to answer their classmates questions successfully, and this review project based learning activity was a success, and without you generous donation it would never have happened!
Please see the attached pictures of the students with their posters and you have our sincerest thanks!
You Rock Ms. Mota!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Kai Hansen
