At the upper elementary age, integrating the tangible aspects of music (reading, playing, and creating) becomes increasingly important to understanding music, developing a connection to it, and being able to express that connection. Along with providing physical experiences for young musicians, it is important to incorporate experiences that draw upon knowledge from the culture/society they have already been exposed to and are comfortable with. Specifically, technology provides a platform for scholars to explore subject areas in a more in-depth manner and to demonstrate their comprehension of those subjects. Apple products have always been top notch in the music industry, and the development of iPad apps and collaborative software has only brought more opportunity. Having iPads in the music room will allow scholars to explore different applications/elements of music in a more familiar way, collaborate with their peers, and express themselves more easily and effectively.
