My project is getting access to flexible seating for students in my classroom. Flexible seating promotes student choice while also allowing them to wobble, bounce, lean, or stand. This increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow and core strength. During independent work, I allow my students to choose where and/or how they sit in my classroom. They can choose to sit at their desk, under their desk, at the carpet, under the table, or even stand. Completing this project will give my students access to more flexible seating. I have noticed that my students are much more productive and stay on task when given the choice of where they want to sit. They make smart choices for what works for them and allows them to be successful. I will be teaching reading this year and all students in 3rd grade at our school will have access to this seating. It is important to me to allow students to have choice and autonomy in my classroom while providing them with options that allow them to be successful. The products I chose for this project range from seating that students can use at their desk, to seats that will allow them to use a clipboard and work in the floor. I will also strongly encourage the use of the flexible seating at my classroom library. Allowing students to be comfortable and cozy when they are reading will help them foster a love for reading. These seating options are lightweight and will be able to move throughout our classroom. My students and I can't thank you enough! I can't wait to see how these new seating options will influence the community and culture in our classroom.
