  • Chapter Books for Reading Intervention!

    Funded May 9, 2023

Thank you for your generous contribution to our classroom. We are so appreciative of the extra books that are now in our library-chapter books that are tailored to emerging readers. These books are engaging and support in-depth learning and comprehension.

Kids grow up loving stories and many are read to as children, picture books foster an engagement of learning but often times students get daunted by chapter books. Chapter books have a higher amount of words and students can feel intimated by the number of words and lack of pictures. The books I chose include pictures and engaging stories that student can follow along with.

The books are going to be used throughout the years as a stepping stone for the transition from picture books to chapter books. Students in reading intervention will have a lot of support as they make this transition.

Thank you for contributing to our classroom. We appreciate it!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Parks

  • Highly Engaging Class Book Sets

    Funded Aug 25, 2016

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your donation to our classroom. The students have thoroughly enjoyed reading and interacting with the books! We are currently in a six week study using the texts through the form of Literature Circles ( in class book clubs) and the engagement has been phenomenal!

Students have been learning about elements of story such as: plot, character development and theme by studying and discussing their Dystopian Society books with one another and as a class. I have students ask me every day if we are going to read, and I can gladly say that some of the students will be finishing a book for the first time in years.

These amazing accomplishments would not have been possible if it were not for you! Your generous support has allowed my students to be able to interact and discover the joys of reading, and delve deeper into story than they would have possible by reading short stories alone. Thank you for the continued support in my students' education, we greatly appreciate it!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Parks

  • Classroom Library

    Funded Jul 21, 2015

I would like to thank you so much for your support! I cannot begin to express my gratitude! I work in a Title One school, a large majority of the students that I teach grow up in poverty. They are used to getting toys, clothes, and games second hand. Therefore, it was so amazing to have my students walk into class the first day and see a shelf full of brand new books. Students eagerly started grabbing books and were excited to see books that they knew were popular, yet had never had a chance to read.

We are so fortunate to have adopted the "Work Shop" model of teaching in our school. This model centers around giving students time to read each and every day in class with a book of their own choosing. I am privileged to be able to allow my students 20-30 minutes a day to be able to read a book of their choice. Lessons are centered around subjects such as Theme, Plot, Character change etc, and in turn we apply these concepts to the books the students are reading. There is not a day that goes by that the kids will ask me "When is Reading Zone" or "How long will we have to read today?" It is truly an amazing experience.

I am a first year teacher. Anyone who has taught before knows the myriad of challenges that face new teachers. One of these challenges is the financial factor of supplying a classroom and gathering materials. I knew that I wanted to be able to provide quality books for my students, books that I myself had read in middle school, and ones that are nearly hot off the presses! I was in shock when I learned that my Donorschoose classroom library was fully funded! Not only have you given my students the opportunity to access to interesting books, but brand new books at that! All of these books have already been well-loved, and there is always a waiting list for certain books to be read and returned so other students can read them!

To end, I would like to tell what one of my students asked me to share when she learned that the books were donated. "Thank you to the donors. I can't believe that strangers would be so generous to us. They don't even know us, but they care so much about us! It means a lot to me that many different people care about my education. Thank you so much! My favorite books have been the "Hunger Games" they should read them!"

Your generosity has already changed lives, and it is continuing to do so. I can't say it enough, thank you, thank you, thank you for your kindness!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Parks

My students are an interesting mix coming from a variety of diverse backgrounds and cultures. The Middle School I am working at is a Title One school, and represents a highly diverse population. The sixth graders are eager to learn and both excited and cautious about entering a new stage of life-Middle school. I am excited to help start them off on the right foot as they enter this new stage in their eduction.
