The sudents in my high school Life Skills classroom are ready to learn the necessary skills to be as independent as possible when transitioning from the high school setting. Many students will find success living on their own while others may need a more supervised environment. In either case, it is my goal to provide my students with the necessary skills to be an active member of the community and world around them. Not only are they learning domestic daily living skills, they are also learning about different ways to provide income for themselves and their families. Some of these students will obtain jobs in the communities while others will produce products they can sell for profit.
In my classroom, one of our emphasis is on creating and recycyling using materials at our hands to produce products that consumers are interested in and want to buy. One of our many classroom jobs is to provide shredding for teachers and staff throughout the school. We then make our own paper mache from the shredded paper. Once the paper mache is made, students are creating vases, bowls and other objects to sell. Having a Cricut Maker in the classroom will help the students to produce various prints, stencils and trinkets to decorate their products for greater appeal.
Having a Cricut Maker in the classroom will also allow my students to expand upon the items they are able to produce for sale. Some of these items include sewing patterns, decals and stickers, signs, balsa wood cuts, homemade cards, Christmas tree ornaments, quilts, felt dolls and soft toys, T-shirt transfers, various invitations, jewelry making, coasters, glassware decals, gift tags, Christmas stockings, and wall art. We are all excited to expand upon our class community enterprise by utilizing a Cricut Maker for greater productivity!
