  • Wildcats Learn Metalsmithing

    Funded Feb 19, 2025

The students have been having a great time learning how to create art pieces out of metal. They learned how to cut and solder metal into three-dimensional art pieces. It allowed them to explore manipulating metal.

I wish I had introduced this medium to them earlier so they could have created more selected works for their AP portfolio. Most of the students are seniors, and they had so much fun that they want to take a metalsmithing class at the colleges they will attend. It's opened up a whole new world beyond working with clay.

Thank you so much for providing us with the materials to spark a new passion in their lives.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Tuohy

  • Raku In The Classroom

    Funded Nov 28, 2023

We started our project by making small pinch pots and firing them as bisque ware. Then, we applied layers of the raku glaze and let it dry. After that, we fired the pot in the microwave kiln and continued the raku process.

The students were amazed we were able to fire ceramics in the microwave. They also loved watching their pot's glaze change when it was put into shredded paper to catch fire.

If you want to see some students going through the raku process, you can visit our classroom website on Instagram @wildcat_ceramics.”

  • Bringing Creativity Outdoors

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

The students were so excited when the boxes arrived. We opened the boxes once the weather improved. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate, and the space wasn't used as much as I wanted. When we start school in August, the area will be used more. A few times, students needed a break from the classroom noise, and they went outside to collect themselves and continue their work.

I want to share some pictures of their fantastic artwork produced this year. Again, thank you for your continued support!”

  • A Pottery Wheel for All

    Funded Oct 26, 2022

My students were so excited to control the speed of the wheel. The students tested the pedal before we started so they understood how to speed up or slow down the pottery wheel. They were amazed at my steps in shaping the clay into a bowl. They listened and followed through when I told them to speed up or slow down.

After the bowls were out of the bisque fire, we bubble-glazed the bowls. Each student picked their favorite color, and most of them picked blue. I mixed water, underglaze, and soap in a cup and blew bubbles onto each bowl.”

  • The Joy of Printing

    Funded Jul 20, 2021

We finally used the materials for the joy of printing donations. The art department put together lessons to learn about cubism and collage. They made cubist styrofoam marker portrait prints, and now they are creating a collage using the theme "From Where We Stand." From these projects, we have collected a lot of artwork to display for our upcoming Spring art show.

The students were amazed at their results and made so many prints! I can tell they enjoyed it as much as I did when taking my printmaking class. Thank you for all of your support!”

  • Sketchnoting for Retention

    Funded Mar 11, 2021

My students enjoyed creating mind maps with sketchnoting! They were able to use the books as references to be more successful.

Every year the students struggle with figuring out their artist investigation. This helped them visualize the different directions they could go and express their ideas. I'm very proud to announce that 7 of the IB students passed their exams, and one of them got a 6 out of 7. That rarely happens! I think it was due to getting creative with their brainstorming and projects.

If we didn't have these books to help, there wouldn't have been as much success. Thank you so much!”

  • Exploring Their Artistic Expression

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

My students are so excited to get their new paints, watercolor pencils, paper, and clay. They have been struggling throughout this school year to create pieces that would live up to International Baccalaureate standards. I know they are going to make great art pieces with these supplies and their enthusiasm to create.

Unfortunately, I don't get to see their reactions when they pick up their supplies, but I know there would be smiles all around if I could.

Please check out the slide show to see work from these talented artists.

Thank you again for supporting my students and their futures.”

  • The Basics Help With Our Success

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

My students can brainstorm and collect images in a place to show their continued learning. They need to show their process, which will help them achieve that for their exams.

The students were so surprised and thankful for this donation. They knew that there was a sketchbook but didn't know about the drawing pencils and their expressions showed it.

They have different subject or themes that they are exploring, and this has been vital for them to have a place to put down all of their thoughts.

    Thank you so much!”

  • Live Streaming Equals Better Understanding

    Funded Jun 15, 2020

Thank you so much for your generosity it means so much to myself and the students. I've recorded many instructional videos and I'm able to show my whole screen using the web cam. Having the tripods helps me position the camera at different angels for the demonstrations.

We're already 4 weeks in and this equipment has been a lifesaver. I'm learning as I go and man it's been a learning experience. I can't wait to share some of the work that they've done with you on Facebook.

Again, thank you so much for your support throughout the years!”

  • Creating Scholastic Artists!

    Funded Dec 31, 2019

I was preparing to start this project before our campus was shut down. I'm planning to use the magazine subscription next year since so many things are up in the air at this time. My students did an assignment from Scholastics online during distance learning. It was about a family painting their house with Starry Night so their autistic son would know what one was their house, it was his favorite painting. People would drive by to see the Starry Night house and it created a little bit of traffic. The family was being fined by the city and they had to go to court. The question was about taking a side the city or the family and the activity was for them to design their dream house. My students had a lot of fun with it so I can see how the future magazines will keep them engaged with the arts. Thank you so much for your support!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Tuohy

My students are incredibly talented and they overcome obstacles that I never knew growing up would have been an issue for high school students. I'm always amazed at the work that they produce and I always can rely on them to get work done to advertise our academy or anything else on campus that needs multimedia advertisements.
