Not all children learn the same way. Kindergartners need a lot of movement in order to stay engaged and also to improve their gross and fine motor skills.
Flexible seating options such as balance ball chairs can help students develop their core strength that is required just to sit criss cross. Many students also find the rocking motion of a balance board or wobble cushions calming and comforting. This is key in that many students in our class come from backgrounds where there has been trauma in their life.
Some students may even want the choice to work in a quiet place such as a reading tent to have increased focus, or just take a break in class. Many students need the opportunity to get up and move while working and seating choices such as this can give these students the movement they need. These seating options can help the mind and the body work as one and increase student engagement.
With your help, I can provide my students with fun seating choices!
