  • Supplies for Success

    Funded Sep 26, 2022

Thank you so much for all of your help to provide organization and group management supplies for my students. Students utilize our classroom additions on a daily basis to stay organized within their groups. The supplies such as the whole puncher and lamination pages also help students stay individually organized. Even as high schoolers, these students need classroom support to aid them in best organizational practices.

The table caddies provide students a place at their group tables to organize their tools and supplies from day to day as they use them in the classroom. The caddies also aid in station rotation activities as students dive deep into texts and collaboratively edit peer writing.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Phthisic

  • Traveling to a Trying Time Through Literature

    Funded Jun 6, 2020

Thank you so much for giving to our classrooms. Your generosity has provided our students with a learning opportunity that will hopefully stay with them for many years as they continue their education. We also plan to read this impactful novel with our students for years to come. Your donation will benefit many students for many years, and for that, we are so appreciative.

By reading "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas," students learned about life in Germany during World War II through the eyes of a young boy. This reading experience provided students with the opportunity to learn through a historical fiction text. We as teachers were able to include nonfiction informational text into the unit to provide students with multiple forms of text to learn about the Holocaust.

We found that our students were very engaged during the reading of "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas." We have you to thank for that.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Phthisic

  • Traveling Through Literature in Comfort and Style!

    Funded Jan 4, 2019

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom. The new flexible seating options that have been introduced to our classroom have given us all a rejuvenated excitement for learning and reading. The alternate seating options have encouraged engagement and collaboration among students and their classmates. Thanks to you, when students come in to their English class, they can choose a seat that best suits their learning needs and reading style.

As the materials were being delivered to our classroom each day, students were more and more excited to try out the new options that were being made available to them. Since we have received our bean bags, stability balls, and swivel stools, as a class we have been reading "Serafina and the Black Cloak" by Robert Beatty. This Historical Fiction novel is set at The Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina during the late 1800's.

With these new seating options, students can easily group themselves together to collaborate on activities in the classroom. As we are finishing our novel, students will use Minecraft to create a replica of The Biltmore Estate. Students will work in groups to complete this project and these seating options will allow them to find a space in the classroom that will work best for them and their group.

Thank you for giving to our classroom and believing in our students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Phthisic

When we travel, we like to be comfortable. As my students are traveling through the literature that we are reading, they want to be comfortable as well. By providing students with balance balls, bean bag chairs and lap desks, swivel stools and high top tables, they will be able to read and collaborate in style. Students feel empowered when they are given choice! When students walk into our classroom, they will be able to choose a working environment that is comfortable and functional for them to do their best. As students have choices within the classroom, they begin to take ownership over their own learning experiences.
