  • Robots, Robots…Can We Build a Robot Part II?

    Funded Apr 28, 2022

STEM and STEAM activities are new to me as a classroom teacher. These kits inspired me to take some time to get kids in collaborative groups to think like an engineer....YIPPEE!

Last year, I came across these robots via the DonorsChoose site in February. I quickly showed them to my team and we started writing away to get different amounts and all of the different ones.

I hope you enjoy these photos. We used this set during an after school club to build collaborative structures and have students build just like engineers. The students just loved every moment!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pfrimmer

  • No More B.O.....Deodorant Please!

    Funded Apr 7, 2022

Being new to fifth grade last year, I was intrigued by the ongoing conversations we had around personal hygiene. These conversations inspired me to write this project. Coming from second grade for our over 18 years, I wasn't as prepared as I thought I was... LOL

When our Amazon boxes arrived, we worked as a grade level to figure out a good time to have this conversation again. We collaborated with our administration and our school nurse. We decided spring would work best and we paired it with a special event.

Each year in spring, our school site host a 5K and our community comes out to support our student runners. We decided to pass out the deodorant ahead of the 5K to really encourage students to come to school ready to run and smell good while doing it. Attached are some pictures from that special day. Thank you DonorsChoose!”

  • Writing In COLOR Is What We Do

    Funded Jan 10, 2022

Our 5th grade students are having such a great year and we thank our donors for helping us with this project! This specific project was super helpful with this transition as it allowed for a color printer in our classroom for students to access as needed.

Our classroom has 29 beautiful and motivated scholars this school year. This project gifted a printer through DC and instantly connected to student chrome books. Throughout the day, students had access to print various items if needed for revision. During the writing process, students were used to drafting on their chrome books but when feedback is given it is a challenge to revise. Giving students access to a printed piece, made this challenging procedure of revision much simpler and enjoyable.

We also used our color printer for other exciting things like building avatars during Open House. Using the printer allowed us to create a classroom with tools and color to bring happiness to our fifth grade room. Lastly, students were thrilled to make Mother's Day and Father's Day cards and gifts for families using the printer.

Room 77 is filled with much gratitude and thanks each donor. These past two years has forever changing education and each of us is learning and growing. We love Donors Choose and we love/appreciate each one of you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pfrimmer

  • Let's Talk About Money Part I

    Funded Oct 25, 2021

Thank you so much for giving my students tools and games to talk about financial literacy, a life-long skill that will help them in every area of life. We've spent a great deal of time playing games related to this topic which has given us problem solving skills and opportunities to strategize while building on our friendships and growing as a community of learners. You have made all this possible with your amazing contributions!

Your donation also gave us books to grow in our money management skills, talking about real-life money issues for now and our futures. You have made a huge difference!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pfrimmer

This classroom project was brought to life by General Motors and one other donor.
  • What Is a Frindle?

    Funded Dec 14, 2021

This is a class set for a book that has proven to be a favorite for 5th graders across the years. My class is excited about reading this one together and about sharing it with other 5th graders on our campus. So often reading a book as a class brings about unity and community that leads to great impact outside the classroom. Having been separated by a pandemic, this year's reading makes a bigger impact than usual, and you have given us a book to create those lasting memories.

Thank you for making this possible.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pfrimmer

This is my first project on DonorsChoose. Help me give my 5th graders chapter books to read, hold, and discuss now that we are back in school full time. Over the past 20 months, we have not been able to use books and we are excited to begin reading this chapter book. What is A Frindle? The book Frindle is about a boy named Nick. Nick is known for asking his patented "thought-grenade" questions over and over as he is tries to get power over how time is spent in the classroom—and, of course, to get out of studying. This book is perfect for my class this year with everyone re-adjusting back to full days of school. Students seek many creative ways to do everything and anything BUT their school work. A class set of chapter books, teacher resources for this book, magnets for posters during our novel study, and teacher read aloud stools helps me give our fifth grade classroom necessary tools for a true move study. Thank you DonorsChoose!
