Flexible seating has been proven to help engagement and participation in the classroom. Many of my students are very active students which negatively affected their performance without the flexible seating. I am hoping that with this option, students will be able to focus and enjoy learning more when they are able to choose their seats. I am hoping that having a few different options will help create an environment that the students enjoy and have control over. Since 5th grade is a very active age, I'm hope that flexible seating will encourage the movement in a more productive way that helps the learning environment. The Blecher seats and floor cushions will be used with a lowered desk or table for students who wish to sit on the ground. The wobble cushion and fidget bands will be used in regular chairs or stools to facilitate movement in a more standard setting. The stools and exercise balls with stability feet will be used in place of chairs for a different type of seat. Having these options will create a sense of autonomy and responsibility in the students as they work and help them to add a little movement to help keep them engaged.
