Travel the World Through the Pages of Books

The Kindles were a welcome addition to my classroom. I used them as enrichment activities to challenge my students. We only have 3 working computers in my classroom so adding the Kindles allowed more students the opportunity to increase their technology skills while being challenged academically. Each Kindle was loaded with math and reading apps that were fun and at the same time challenged my students' thinking. We set up a rotating schedule so that every student would have access to the Kindles on a regular basis.

One of my students was usually slow in completing his work and often time would not complete many assignments. Without much encouragement for me, many assignments would not have been completed. After I set up the Kindles as a reward system for him, he not only completed the assignments he did them with greater accuracy and care. It was a HUGE difference in his work habits. He wanted his special time to use the Kindles.

My class read the book, Tuck Everlasting, which is about a family living forever. Since my students know that in real life this is not possible, we had a lot of fun wondering "what if". There were so many scenarios that my students created around the possibility of living forever. They discussed what they would do, how they would live, the differences they would make in the world and then discussed the value in not living forever. My students absolutely loved this book and I can't wait to use it with my next class.

Thank you so much for the Kindles and books. You have added so much richness to my instruction!!”

With gratitude,

Ms. C.
