  • Embracing Technology with Math & Socio-Emotional Learning

    Funded Nov 2, 2019

Thank you for contributing to my project to assist my scholars with learning via technology. The Apple Ipad and pencil was a great addition to our learning environment. Scholars were able to complete Google forms, work on learning applications, use the pencil to color, watch educational videos, take pictures, and record videos.

Technology enables students to learn through various applications that afford them accommodations such as speech to text, interactive learning activities, dictation, learning at their own pace, and preparation for the future. Additionally, it fosters collaboration and increased engagement within the classroom environment.

Lastly, students really love the fact the pencil enables them to write when they're not comfortable with using the keyboard. They also love the video to record videos and watch videos using various apps. Overall, the integration of technology within the classroom builds onto to skills that many students already use at home as well as provide exposure for students that aren't able to access technology at home.”

  • Capturing 5th Grade Senior Moments with an iPad Pro!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you for taking the time to not only think about our scholars but show your support by fully funding our need for an Ipad. The Ipad was utilized in many different ways to enhance the experience of our scholars. Scholars were able to take pictures during the senior trip, senior activities, and around the classroom. Additionally, the Ipad was used to give scholars points for being caught doing great things on ClassDojo. The Ipad has helped our scholars learn by using it to track their data in order to view areas of growth as well as areas of celebrations.

Many of our scholars do not have technology at home, therefore having an opportunity to use and view data on an Ipad was a big deal for some of our scholars. It was exciting for our scholars to see their pictures and work airdropped to the SmartBoard. Many of the scholars were amazed at the fact that I was able to snap photos and have it magically appear on the screen just like that. It was really awesome!

There were no particular scholars that have especially warmed up to the Ipad, many of the scholars are just excited at the fact that we have a piece of up to date technology inside of our classroom. Many of the laptops and technology placed in our classrooms are outdated and limited in their ability to do many new things, therefore many of our scholars are warmed to the idea of any new and improved piece of technology introduced to our classroom.

Again, we truly thank you from the top and bottom of hearts for your generosity and effort to make school a better place for scholars to learn and grow!”

  • Empowered Special Education Writer's

    Funded Mar 9, 2016

Technology is used in various forms inside the classroom. Technology can be a tool used to foster engagement, a tool utilized fir a student with disability, research projects, centers for reading, math or any other subject, incentive or game time. The use of technology can be integrated with any learning project.

In my classroom, technology has helped my students struggling with writing. The use of computers, allows them the ability to type out their papers prior to or during the editing process. This is particularly helpful for my students that hate writing because it gives them another option. Technology has helped my students conduct research for various literacy writing assignments as well as Socratic seminars.

My students are excited about the opportunity to have newer and up to date technology inside our classroom. In fact they bragged to other students about how cool their teacher was for getting them new laptops. I found it quite inspiring. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to integrate new technology inside my classroom. The use of technology has been come essential in the modern classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. W.

  • Special Education Scholars Reading Success

    Funded Dec 18, 2015

Technology creates an interactive classroom where students are able to conduct research, write papers, play educational math or reading games, or watch videos related to different content areas. Technology can be integrated into lessons as a form of differentiation or engagement. The use of technology serves as an incentive for students who need that extra push to complete task or become engaged in a task.

The IPads get my students excited about conducting research. Whenever a new writing project is presented to the class, students jump at the opportunity to use the iPads to either read up on the topic or watch videos related to the topic. The iPads come in handy when my students are participating in a Socratic seminar where they're discussing a particular topic that requires a solid knowledge base. Research in my class was once a humdrum task that my students dreaded. The very mention of research or reading created anxiety for students that struggled in these areas. The integration of iPads into the classroom via lesson plans have allowed my students to make some progress in these areas.”

    Ms. W.

  • Keeping Our Eyes On The Prize!!

    Funded Dec 20, 2014

Thank you again for your generosity and support. Your support allowed me to obtain valuable supplies for my classroom and students. When my students had to go down to the office to pick up the boxes, they were excited to find out what was in the boxes. When I explained what the items were and how we were going to use them. They got really excited to learn that we would be able to laminate some of our work. My students were also excited to see how the document camera and I must admit so was I.

I wish that I could post pictures of my students with the products but unfortunately majority of my students didn't return their media permission slips. Also you may notice that there aren't pictures with the document camera, we ran into some technical difficulties with our Smartboard and laptop. We had to wait for the new projector, Smartboard and laptop to arrive and our technical difficulties haven't stopped. However, our SETSS teacher was able to make great use of it in his office with some of his students. Next school year or during the summer, I plan to make great use of it as well.

The laminator was used to make bookmarks for our students to use during our reading periods and we also laminated the covers for our Natural Disaster and Poetry projects. We are currently working on our Social Studies project and we'll begin laminating their pictures and their writings. When one of my students had her artwork laminated, she was excited and proud to see that her work was being protected.

Your support and donations are have a great impact on my students and I. Working in a low socio economic area has many disadvantages due to the inability to obtain resources. Therefore we're always grateful when donors make investments into our future. My students now take pride in their work because they know that their works will preserved and displayed. Your generosity has shown us that their are awesome people in the world that care about our future.”

  • Reading Rockets

    Funded Dec 9, 2014

My students were excited when we received the listening center along with the books and so was I. Especially my students that struggled with reading, they loved having the opportunity to hear how fluently the reader read and how the reader was able to change their voice when switching characters. One of the first things my students asked when the boxes arrived tour classroom was, "Ms. Walters, who brought us these gifts? We love it!" We wasted no time in opening in the boxes and diving into our books in the listening center during our D.E.A.R (Drop everything and read).

We use the listening center during our D.E.A.R time and there were sometimes that the kids were allowed to use the headphones to plug into the computers to listen in on videos for their research project. The students are able to visit the listening center during lunch time, free reading time and during our planned reading time in the morning.

The listening center boosted my teaching because it provided another avenue/access door for my students that needed an extra boost in reading. The listening center was another method of differentiating and it helped boost some of my students up 2 reading levels. It's amazing because some of my students are now taking more pride in their reading and are now taking ownership in their learning.

Thank you so much for helping me make a difference in the lives of my students. Thank you for generosity. Your generosity enabled some of my students move closer to reaching their learning goals.”
