Funded Sep 10, 2015It has been a very busy December in our classroom! I want to start off by saying that my kids were ecstatic when I was able to surprise them with a classroom I-Pad. I immediately began researching free educational apps (or trial versions) that my students could use to not only improve their reading, writing, mathematics and many other skills, but to motivate them to practice these skills on their free time. Needless to say, I was surprised at how much more the children knew than me when it came to the i-Pad and its apps. In today's world, technology is so familiar to these children. Being able to turn a foreign concept into something so natural and far less frustrating is a game changer in the classroom.
My students have been able to use our iPad in classroom centers, one on one and small group instruction and also as a choice time after working hard to complete their independent workstation tasks. Through the last few months I have been able to take note of which apps are classroom favorites. Those apps that were constant go-to's for my students, II have purchased the full versions of for them to enjoy. One of the apps myself and my students LOVE is the children's e-book app, EPIC. This app is free to classroom teachers and allows you to make a profile for the classroom and each student based on their individual reading level. It logs how many books, specific books they've read, how log they've spent reading on it, etc. They also have an amazing selection of books that can be read to the students which makes it amazing for listening centers and those students who cannot read on their own. There is also a great selection of non-fiction, informational titles which is being pushed so much in the classroom today.
Myself and my students can't begin to thank all of you enough! We hope you enjoyed our pictures from the classroom and our group thank you photo. This year is definitely off to a great start and they have all shown so much growth already! Happy holidays to all!”
With gratitude,
Ms. D'Alesio
