Bringing The Beach To The Inner City Part 2
Funded Sep 11, 2013Thank you all for bringing this project to life. My students have thoroughly enjoyed having a sand and water table on our playground. We are about to change it out to sand as the weather gets a bit cooler. We will continue to use it all year long by just changing what materials we place inside. My young learners are so engaged during sand and water activities. You've provided me with a wonderful tool to expose my students to endless science concepts. We are learning about capacity and weight and sink and float which are best taught through hands-on experiences. I have a few students who seek this center out each day and others check it out when we change the manipulatives. Either way all my students can enjoy experiences while learning these concepts throughout the year by exploring cause and effect relationships. I am so grateful for your support and generosity!”

Funded Feb 28, 2013My students have really enjoyed all the learning materials you funded in this project. The students have loved writing their high frequency words with the colorful sidewalk chalk. Some students draw pictures and a few have even written me a long message to read when I come back from recess. Our bike path is totally more organized with the street signs. We used one for the "parking lot" where they park the bikes and scooters when they're done and the stop sign is right at the beginning of the path. It reminds them to stop and let another friend have a turn. The kids love using the small balls for P.E. to practice catching as we'll as making baskets in the basketball nets. Thank you so much for supporting public education and thank you for your generosity!”

Funded Mar 4, 2013Thank you so much for your generosity. The students were excited for these backpacks and materials to arrive. We had fun taking them all out and learning how to use them together before I let the children take them home. It's so important to continue to practice reading, letter recognition, and number awareness throughout the year and even better if they practice with their family's support. Our principal even came in to read some of the stories that came in the backpacks. This really helped the children get excited to take the backpacks home. It's so nice to have my students excited about homework. The parents have reported that the directions are very easy to follow and they really enjoy having so many activities to choose from that are all connected to the book. Thank you for making this project possible. The home-school connection is so important and I really do believe that the parents and families have helped my students be more motivated to practice their skills using these take home backpacks.”

Funded May 2, 2012Thank you so much for your generosity and helping to bring these wonderful materials to my classroom. The children have absolutely loved building entire neighborhoods with the community block buildings. They love driving the vehicles through them and also placing the community worker dolls near the building where they would work. I have used the magnetic lined chart to model dictation for my students during our phonics lessons. We use the name tag pockets during our high frequency word games where the children run to a partner who has the same word necklace. I have already starting preparing for the new school year writing down ideas in my teacher's plan book. Thank you for your donation and support! ”

The Sound of Music
Funded Feb 19, 2012Thank you so much for bringing these wonderful gifts to my classroom. We have used our iPod and player everyday since they arrived. We love engaging in parachute activities during PE and having the player be so portable allows us to take the music outside and play all the games and exercise to the music. We enjoy listening to music during art lessons. We have a variety of classical music that we listen to while learning about lines, color mixing, and drawing and labeling parts of the flower. We also used our wonderful music center during drama and dance. The children's favorite activity was to listen to a piece of music and move their bodies however they felt inspired. It was wonderful to watch their creative process and joy that this brought to each of their faces. My favorite use of the iPod in the classroom was during my intervention groups. I was able to allow a student to have another time to listen to a story or our phonics sounds to help them learn fluency and speech sounds. Thank you so much for all your generosity and support! We are truly grateful!”

A Seat At The Table Part 2
Funded Jan 30, 2012Thank you so much for your generosity. My students have loved using this table during outside time. I have put out science materials like magnets, magnifying classes, color paddles, and more. The children really enjoy sitting at the table and interacting with the hands-on materials. They share their observations and ask each other questions. Having this defined space has provided my students with wonderful scientific experiences and we have been able to extend our classroom lessons during recess. Currently we are learning about plants and the table and chairs has provided a wonderful area for my students to investigate the plants and growing things trays. There plants are beginning to sprout seedlings and they love to take their cup to the table to examine it under the magnifying glass. Thank you very much for making these experiences and lessons possible. Your support has brought such wonderful learning experiences to my students.”

Funded Jan 6, 2012Thank you so much for your generosity. My students were so excited when I told them this project was fully funded. They have enjoyed having a computer in the classroom very much. The students are allowed to use the computer during literacy and language centers. I bought some educational games to help support the academic skills we are learning in class and we also have found some great free educational websites to practice phonics and literacy skills and basic math skills. The children have learned how to go on to the Internet, how to open a program, and next week we are beginning to type our journals. They are already beginning to type lists of high frequency words they are learning. Bringing technology to our classroom has been such a wish of mine for years. I am so grateful to all of you for making these activities and lessons possible. My students will enjoy this computer for years”

Funded Dec 7, 2011Thank you so much for your generosity. My students were so excited when I told them this project was funded. Before sending them home the children got to open up the backpacks and look at all the cool materials in each pack. They picture walked the books, played the learning games, and couldn't wait to get to take the backpacks home. These backpacks provide such an invaluable opportunity for my students to have a chance to use hands-on materials at home to review concepts we have learned in class. Thank you so much for your support and bringing this wonderful set of take-home learning backpacks to our classroom. I know I will continue to use it for years to come. ”
