Headphone Hush

Funded Mar 27, 2018

Headphones donated to South Side High School EAST ("Education Accelerated by Service and Technology") allows multiple students to work on multiple projects and/or watch instructional videos during the same class period, without the noise and distraction of someone listening to something else right next to them!

Some of the projects EAST students are working on that require them to watch instructional videos, tutorials, etc. include:

*Students interested in music are editing and producing music, perhaps to collaborate with another student to add music to a video the second student is making that the local Chamber of Commerce has requested.

*Students interested in art are watching an instructional video on using the Wacom drawing tablet, perhaps to design a graphic brochure the Game and Fish Commission is seeking.

*Students interested in gaming are learning how to code to make their own tutorial to help special education students with math skills.

*Students preparing to fly the drone, to help the local emergency response in the event an emergency incident has happened that is hazardous for responders, are watching youtube to enable them to fly safely after testing.

*Students interested in helping Occupational Therapy students are working on a Virtual Reality app to increase motor skills.

*Students interested in photography are learning how to PhotoShop through tutorials so that they can use these skills to help the community.

The students are grateful for the headphones so that the cacophony of many students working on many different projects at one time is blocked out. Before the headphones I was constantly having to "hush" students, entreating them to turn down their tutorials, etc. so as not to bother the student next to them.

The students who are most affected by this donation are, in my opinion, the "quiet" ones who previously had tried to work through the noise, but would never say anything to anyone about the volume level, nor complain to me. Also benefiting are students working on music or video editing, as they need to hear exactly where their work needs to be edited.

Thank you again, so much, for your donation to our little school! We are very appreciative of DonorsChoose.org and the works they do!”

With gratitude,

Mrs. Nelson
