After researching I have discovered that flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. Currently my students are working in regular school desks and standard chairs. Having alternative seating will allow students to choose to work in a variety of locations in our room such as: at different tables, sitting under tables with clip boards, or sitting or laying on the floor with a clip board. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential for motivating them. I hope to see an amazing difference in my students when they are given a choice of seating, and I hope to see them more engaged than when they are just sitting at their desk. The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them more options for seating, and help with certain behaviors. The wobble stools I choose for my students with Autism and ADHD. They will allow students to sit on the floor or in a chair, and will allow them to have some movement. The comfy floor pillows and the comfy chairs will allow for additional comfortable floor seating options. They are lightweight and can be easily used in many areas of the classroom. The magnetic base ten materials I have chosen are for a lesson on division. This will give students a better concept of how division works. These materials will allow me to demonstrate the lesson on my magnetic board while students work with manipulatives at their seats. The two old fashioned pencil sharpeners were chosen due to the fact that I have to buy a new electric sharpener every year. Sometimes old school is better.
