  • Journey to Independence

    Funded May 29, 2019

When we found out our project was funded right we were super excited. We could hardly wait for our stuff to arrive! When we came to school, we could not contain our smiles as all the boxes piled in!

We are going to use these new materials to help us work hard on our quest for independence. We are going to use the work centers, education locks, and seat cushions to help us learn valuable daily living skills that will help live as independently as possible.

Overall, this is absolutely amazing! I am truly humbled by the fantastic response to my project. Your incredible donations will help my students achieve to the best of their abilities. My students and I will use our new materials and do our best to pay it forward when the situation arrives.

Thank you so much for everything! You will never know how much this means to us.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Sitnick

  • Station to Station: This Is How We Thrive!

    Funded Feb 14, 2019

When we found out our project was funded right before our winter break we were super excited. We could hardly wait for our stuff to arrive! When we got back from school, we could not contain our smiles as all the boxes piled in!

We are going to use these new materials to help us organize our classroom to better prepare ourselves for keeping all the needed class materials together. We are going to use the laundry baskets, folding board, and table to help us learn valuable daily living skills that will help live as independently as possible.

Overall, this is absolutely amazing! I am truly humbled by the fantastic response to my project. Your incredible donations will help my students achieve to the best of their abilities. My students and I will use our new materials and do our best to pay it forward when the situation arrives.

  • Let's get a Littlebit(s) excited about Science and Math!

    Funded Aug 23, 2015

Imagine having a mind full of ideas and an imagination that is bursting at the seams. However, your body does not necessarily execute all those ideas for reasons such as physical disability or delayed cognitive abilities. This is what my students deal with on a daily basis. When they are given something that they can use to help them express their thoughts and ideas they truly prosper!

This is why this project has meant so much to me and my class. littleBits are easy-to-use electronic building blocks that empower my students to invent anything, from their own remote controlled car, to a smart home device. The Bits snap together with magnets, no soldering, no wiring, no programming needed. They are able to connect the bits to each other and they can create a fan that responds to voices or a light that turns on with the flip of a switch or clapping of hands. If they make a mistake, they do not have start from square one. They just unsnap and reattach, but the beauty is that even with mistakes, they create cool new things.

My students all love using them! Even students who do not normally like to build or even enjoy science are asking to use them. This has truly given my class an excitement for learning that they did not have previous. I want to thank you all for helping them appreciate technology in a new exciting way and made learning even more fun!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Sitnick

  • Let's Have a Seat!

    Funded Oct 1, 2014

What happens when you are stressed out? What do you do when you need to calm down? How do you relax?

These are the many difficulties my students face on a daily basis. For many of us, coping with stress can be as simple as telling someone you are upset or something is bothering you. My students have many communication difficulties and sometimes the only way the can achieve release from stress is to act out physically.

The chairs we originally had in the classroom are those chairs that we all remember from grade school, hard plastic and extremely stiff. Everyday, my students had to sit on these very uncomfortable chairs and had to deal with all the stress that school brings.

My students are very responsive to sensory items and sometimes sitting on a hard metal chair makes learning very difficult. By getting the exercise ball chairs, the students receive more comfort and less stress on their backs. This has definitely led to a happier and more comfortable learning environment. Everybody who comes into my classroom is curious about them and wants to try to sit on them.

These chairs help my students relax and concentrate on all their activities during the course of the day. The day the package arrived; my students were quite loud and excited. Once the chairs were set up, they immediately sat down on them. One of my students was out with his therapist and when walking back She was unsure if the class was in the room because they were so quiet! When the therapist came into the room, the class was all sitting extremely still and extremely quiet!

By donating to the project, you have helped my students to deal better with daily stress. You have ensured that they will continue to learn in new ways, and that they gain independence in the classroom.

To everyone that donated you are my heroes!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Sitnick

  • A Comic Book Club to Promote Everyday Superheroes!

    Funded Mar 7, 2014

Many different things inspire my students. I try to find different creative ways to help keep them motivated to participate each and every day. My students are super, just like the characters in these books. They face many challenges like their favorite heroes and come out shining every time. I try to encourage my students to do the right thing and motivate them to achieve to the best of their abilities.

Many of my students are motivated by positive feedback and incentives. My school uses Positive Behavior Interventions and one such way of promoting good behavior is that of clubs. Many of the students really like comic books. These books have truly captured the students' imaginations so that they can both create and become heroes of their own. When we received the books, the students were very excited! They asked many times when they could get more to read!

This proved to be a valuable tool when working with my students. Every week, they looked forward to meeting up on Friday to sit, relax and discuss with their friends all about the adventures that they have read. It inspired me as teacher because I was able to share one of the things that I enjoy greatly with each kid in school.

By donating to the project, you have helped to motivate my students to become the heroes they see in these colorful books. Each week, they will have an opportunity to let their imaginations run wild and work towards attaining their goals! You have ensured that they will continue to learn in new ways, and that they gain independence in the classroom.

To everyone that donated you are my heroes!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Sitnick
