Funded Oct 21, 2021Some skills that students work on while independently reading is building fluency and comprehension. These skills are essential to every day reading. Students are able to explore current, interesting books while practicing these skills.
In our integrated co-teaching classroom, students start their English period independently reading for about 20 minutes. They are able to have conferences with their teachers to discuss their book. During these conferences, we ask students to read aloud at least two paragraphs from their book and then discuss the setting and the characters. As we conference with these students, others are focused on creating images with their personal stories.
It can become difficult to find texts that really impact pre-teens today. The selection of books allows multiple interests to enter our library. Now all of our students are engaged in their independent reading because of you!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Rodriguez
