Time For Kids!!!!
Funded Aug 14, 2017Time For Kids news article are supplemented with standards based common core aligned lesson plans. It provides the class with current events and information articles along with critical thinking discussion questions, new vocabulary and online resources.
The students in my class love to receive their new Time For Kids article each week. The magazine is visually appealing and very kid friendly. The students are able to relate the articles to topics that have seen on television and/or discussed at home with their families. One of the first articles we received this school year was on Hurricane Harvey. The students were eager to share their knowledge of the topic and expand the conversation to include the hurricanes that followed. The discussions started in the classroom often extend beyond our walls as the students are excited to share their magazines with their families.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Sergey Brin Family Foundation and one other donor.School2School Book Donation
Funded May 29, 2015We were excited to receive our donations of books. The books come in bright colorful displays and are a great addition to our classroom library. The students were especially excited to see the Superhero collection with easy to read chapter books on Batman, Superman and Green Lantern.
We received a set titled Read and Understand that we use for small group instruction. The set included "think aloud" prompts that help develop the student's ability to predict, visualize, infer and connect to the story.
These material are beneficial to student's in my class because they are all special needs students with individual learning goals. The Superhero books are great motivators for reluctant readers. The stories are easy to follow and the pages are colorful. The Read and Understand simplifies concepts that are necessary to achieve the common core standards.”

CHECK US OUT!!!!
Funded Jan 22, 2015Thank you for the donation of the checker sets. All the students I work with from kindergarten to fifth grade have had an opportunity to play checkers with their peers. The peer interactions have been fun and educational. We have practiced social skills such as turn-taking, waiting patiently for our turn, and how to accept defeat. We have also practiced strategies to help each other win. The students are able to play checkers during their lunch periods and other designated times. Thanks again for this small but generous gift.”

Funded Dec 8, 2014Thank you for the generous donation of a Bostitch Super PRO6 pencil sharpener, magnetic dry erase boards and dry board erasers. The students were very excited to add these materials to our writing center. It has been a luxury to have the ability to sharpen the jumbo pencils that our very young writers need. The magnetic dry erase boards make it very easy for the students to manipulate the letters during word study/ phonics lessons. The variety of materials make it easy for the children to practice writing letters, words and sentences. Its the little things that make life easier in the classroom. Thanks once again!!!! :)”

Funded Dec 21, 2010It is with sincerest gratitude that I thank you for your donation to my class. My class consists of 12 learning disabled students in one of the most impoverished neighborhoods in New York. They are mostly fifth graders who are transitioning to middle school next school year. They are eager and friendly children that are always willing to try new things.
The materials I ordered are organizational tools that will help my students manage their learning independently. Having these materials at the beginning of the school year will help establish rituals and routines that will maximize the time during daily lessons. The writing folders have pockets for their writing in every step of the writing process. This clearly defined space will help my special needs students work on the PROCESS of writing. The writing organizer will hold all the writing materials in a one central location. The lap board center will keep all the necessary materials readily accessible to all the students and teachers in the classroom. The teacher organizer will help me keep their important documents readily accessible for the students, parents and administrators.
My goal for my students is too empower them to take initiative of their own learning by teaching them to be organize and recognize their own learning styles. Students with special needs thrive on rituals and routines that included classroom set-up and organization of materials. The materials provided by your donation will help accomplish these goals.”

Funded Jan 6, 2011It is with sincerest gratitude that I thank you for your donation to our class. The visual presenter will change the way literature is presented to the class. The teacher can take one book and project the book onto the board. It will enlarge the print and display the pictures in color. The entire class will have access to the book to read and discuss. This avoids the teacher having to look for multiple copies of a book or make plain black and white copies of books.
The visual presenter will also change the way the students will experience actual materials. A simple leaf of small bug can be examined closely under this machine. It will enhance all social studies, science, art and math lesson.
Your donation will bring learning in the 21st century to a whole new level. Students will be exposed to advances in technology that they will encounter in higher learning institutions and in the workplace.”

Funded Nov 23, 2010We learn by doing. Some of our most memorable school moments are those that involved rolling up our sleeves and getting our hands dirty. My students have difficulty reading, remembering and processing information from books. Daily lessons have to be supplemented with activities that are meaningful and hands-on.
The material I chose will supplement our Social Studies lessons. Students will have a basic globe to use as a reference. I also ordered a landforms and mapping resource box in addition to map molding kits so that the students can make 3D versions of maps. They will label their maps with appropriate vocabulary. These maps can be used to compliment many lessons as the students learn about their history. These materials will tap into students' kinesthetic learning styles.
Your donation will help provide special needs students with the hands-on activities they need as they learn geography and history. The materials will supplement the Social Studies curriculum and provide a fun and meaningful opportunity to recall important vocabulary.”

Overhead Projector Needed ASAP!
Funded Dec 10, 2009Thank you very much for your generous donation to my classroom. The overhead projector is an important tool to provide visual support for students that struggle with reading and writing. I used it everyday to model how to write simple sentences and paragraphs. We also use to read short stories and poems. We can circle or underline new vocabulary or important facts and details. Everyone in the class can follow along and I can maintain their focus. Our school is currently facing a budget shortfall, so without your help, my students would never have had this vital resource. The overhead projector eliminates the need to have multiple copies of materials; so it saves time and money.
Our class genuinely thank you!!!”

We're in a New York State of Mind!
Funded Oct 27, 2009Thank you for your generous donation. We are fortunate enough to live in one of the greatest cities - New York City. However, many of the students in my class have never experienced many of the sights that this city has to offer. Many of them have never left their community in the South Bronx.
With the help of your donation, the students will read and discover the history and significance of many of the famous landmarks. We will go on several trips into the city to have first hand experiences with the places we have read about. We will use these resources and interactions to foster literacy development.”

A Little Kindness Goes a Long Way
Funded Feb 2, 2008I am genuinely excited to have my proposal "A Little Kindness Goes A Long Way" funded. The students in my school have been working hard to adhere to the school mantra of being respectful, responsible and safe. The school principal will also be very thankful, as resources in our school are very limited.
Thanks you,
