Our school has a very diverse population. We have many English Language Learners as well as many poverty-stricken children. My fifth graders are a great bunch, but they vary in their abilities. I have many students who are not only needy academically, but also emotionally. I am trying to connect to their emotional beings by teaching empathy throughout the school year.
