Law Academy - to Kill a Mocking Bird
Funded Mar 6, 2020Thank you for the donation! This was so important to getting my students to understand what it is like to be a lawyer. While students are not in the building right now, they will be able to take the story of To Kill A Mockingbird with them wherever they go. Additionally, having the audio book allowed all of my students who have some difficulty reading at this level to listen to the content, which makes them understand the content more. You have really done everything to make my students better themselves, thank you!”

Mr. Passalacqua

Funded Oct 24, 2019Pencils and pens! Markers and High lighters! PAPER, PAPER, PAPER! Oh, and Ink, let us not forget the fantastic, wonderful, amazing ink. Than you so much donors, you have made it so much easier for my students to be prepared for school. Whether it be in preparing for moot court and mock trial competitions after school and having all of the resources they need to annotate, mark up, correct, correct, and correct their opening statement again; or just being able to provide a piece of loose-leaf to the kids that either do not bring it or can not afford it. You are all amazing and helpful, thank you so much!”

Funded Sep 24, 2019Students have had the opportunity to not only understand the content being taught in class, but they have been able to do so much more. With your extremely helpful donation to this project, the students in my Law Academy classes, across three grades, have been able to create something unique and special. Each of the groups was able to create a game or a game-like educational tool, which they used in teaching economics to local grade school children, made preparing their moot court case more easily, or participating in speed networking. Thank you for your help.”

A Pocket Constitution for Graduation
Funded Jun 12, 2019My students will now have the constitution at their fingertips, which is something they can have forever. As policies change & computer generated images cycle on & off, I appreciate have the solace of knowing that my students will always have a copy of the highest law in the land. That being said, it is also a helpful tool in the classroom, making teaching the constitution THAT MUCH easier. Thank you all, I hope I too will be able to make as much of an impact as this item will. You are all the best!”

Funded Jan 11, 2019First and foremost, thank you. I really appreciate your donation and I know that my students do as well. Teaching economic principles can be one of the driest things sprinkled throughout the Social Studies curriculum. From the barter system to the stock market, making students understand economic concepts can be difficult. So, in class we are using the copies of Pit!, Struggles for Catan, and Monopoly (the Card Game) to show students these principles in quick, easy, and fun ways.
Teachers can be hesitant to implement new things and sometimes using gaming in education can look ineffective, when in reality it is a less procedural way to impart the same information on the students. When my students first saw them, they did not know what to do, in that they had not expected to come into class and play games. I think entertaining and educating students is the most important balance in education. Allowing my students to not only learn, but play is the nicest thing you could have done.
The next steps is to have my students develop their own ways to make learning inherently dense topics more easily digestible by having them develop their own lessons.”

Funded Nov 2, 2018I am so very grateful that you all made this possible. Teaching a high school level law class its hard to rationalize governmental acts in a way that students will comprehend. With 1984, by George Orwell, I was able to take a break from normal achedemic studies of hard to digest constitutional issues & give my students a hypothetical situation where those freedoms no longer existed. A world nothing like our own, but similar in so many ways. You made it so that my seniors will leave high school having read one of the most influential texts written in the past woo years & I am forever in your debt for that. Thank you from them, from my future students, & from me.”

Empowering 21st Century Learners
Funded Feb 21, 2017Reaching students is difficult today, in an ever changing world, we as educators need to find ways in which our students can be able to learn more easily. As students of the 21st century, their are often times that they are unaware that they are learning in settings that they seem more comfortable. When they are not in a classroom setting students can easily take in information, whether it is through reading an article that is linked on through their facebook or on a story on snapchat, students of the 21st century learn through technology. So the limitation that we as educators face is how do we get that technology in their hands?
In a perfect work, every student in EVERY class would have their own computer, so it is very important to make the first moves needed to get technology, with Internet access, in their hands so at the very least, if presented with the same information in a different medium they can take in and comprehend the information. This, in it self is helping my students change the way they are able to learn, which is allowing them to actually be able to learn more easily. My students are excited to, at the very least have technology in their hands, even if the content is nothing different. Students just want the access to the same technology as they would in their everyday life. So, thank you so much for that everyone!”
