  • Help Us Show Our Panther Pride!

    Funded Dec 31, 2023

My students were ecstatic when they received their new Panther spirit shirts. Almost all of my students immediately asked if they could go and put their shirts on. Most of them have not had one previously because their parents could not afford to purchase the ones sold through our PTA. They feel like they are truly an important part of our school by wearing their new shirts during our school spirit days. It truly warms my heart so much to see them excited for the opportunity to have a school shirt to wear. These new spirit shirts filled their desire to have a school shirt. Thank you so much for helping to make this possible.”

    Mrs. Alford

  • Riveting Reading Resources Spells Student Success!

    Funded Dec 30, 2023

I just wanted to thank you for the wonderful donations to my classroom. My students have enjoyed the new reading materials as much as I have. Having the phoneme phones allow my reading intervention students to practice reading the words and sentences with skills we have been working on while I am able to listen to one student at a time. The CVC word builders have been lots of fun as review for my students. Having hands-on materials makes learning more meaningful to my students.

Thank you for choosing to make a difference in our students through your donations. We appreciate your support more than words can say.”

  • New Semester = New Supplies Needed

    Funded Mar 7, 2024

Your generosity in donating to our new supplies project means so much to my students as well as myself. Having these new school supplies like the crayons and pencils has helped to replenish our materials to use with my intervention math and reading groups. My students use their pencils daily and the crayons often as well.

Having the new containers of disinfecting wipes and tissues has helped as we are in the midst of allergy/cold season. We have been able to effectively clean our work areas with disinfecting wipes and keep the germs away.

Thank you again for your support!”

  • Help Us "SOR" as Readers!

    Funded Oct 13, 2023

My reading intervention students are so very excited to learn more about reading through phonics instruction using the Science of Reading materials provided through this Donors Choose grant. The Science of Reading

Using these proven materials, my students have made great gains in their phonics skills during the first half of our school year. Several have surpassed the goals that were set for them at the beginning of the school year and have moved out of my reading intervention group. I am so proud of the progress they have made.”

  • Math Manipulatives Makes Learning Memorable

    Funded Nov 7, 2023

Having these new hands-on math manipulatives has made working with my math intervention students a much more enjoyable task. They enjoy using the number line whiteboards to see how they are increasing or decreasing in amounts by "hopping" forward or backward. They can then write the corresponding addition or subtraction problem. They have also enjoyed using the ten-frame paddleboards to show how to construct numbers using the magnetic counters. It truly helps my students understand the math lessons we are working on by being able to use these concrete math manipulatives. Math is truly a skill that is learned by doing. Thank you again for your generous donations!”

  • A Stable Table Inspires Yearning for Learning!

    Funded Nov 29, 2023

Thank you so much for providing my students and myself with a new small group table to complete our reading and math intervention lessons. Donors like you help keep my students engaged in small group activities where we work together on skills they need more assistance with. Having this horseshoe-shaped table allows me to be close to all of my students and provide them with the specific help they need. I love seeing my students' excitement when they understand a concept for the first time and can demonstrate it for me. Thank you once again for your generous contributions.”

  • Riveting Reading Resources

    Funded Sep 7, 2023

Having these wonderful reading intervention resources has positively influenced my reading intervention groups. These materials have truly made the abstract concept of reading a concrete experience for my students. They are able to actually see how words are built one letter and one sound at a time. Then they can work with these sounds to manipulate them and change them to create new words. After they create the words using sound chips to represent the sounds, they are able to correctly write the corresponding letter underneath in the spaces on the sound trays. Thank you again for making my students' reading intervention time more concrete!”

  • Struggling Readers Can Fly High With UFLI!

    Funded Jul 31, 2023

Thank you for giving my students as well as myself the materials we need to help them become stronger, more confident readers. The UFLI Foundations program has made such a positive impact on my reading intervention students. They are learning to read and write at the same time because this program provides explicit, systematic instruction in all of the phonics skills. It covers letter sounds, phonemic awareness, decoding, spelling, reading words from memory, and reading words in a text. As a reading interventionist, I am becoming more proficient in understanding the science behind teaching reading as well. I think this program will be highly effective in helping my reading intervention students gain the foundational skills they need to become proficient readers. Thank you again for your support!”

  • The Magic of Magnetic Letters

    Funded Aug 3, 2023

Thank you so much for your generosity to fund "The Magic of Magnetic Letters" project. My students are loving using the new magnetic letter sets to build words using the skills we have been working on in our reading intervention groups. Having the magnetic letters allows my students to change out the letters to create new words easily and quickly. The magnetic letters allow my students to work on their fine motor skills while also applying the phonics skills we are working on. If they make an error in their spelling, they are able to quickly change a letter/letters to correct their error.

One of my students' favorite activities is Push The Letter Sounds. This game uses magnetic letters to practice early decoding skills. It helps them improve their decoding skills by having them push magnetic letters to help them make each sound in the word and then blend those sounds together.

    We appreciate your donations again!”

  • A Book for My Birthday

    Funded Mar 31, 2023

My students are so excited to receive a book for their birthdays. Having this assortment of books will give them a choice in which book they receive. Many of my students come from low-income homes and do not have access to a personal library of books. By giving them a book for their birthday, they will have a book they can keep and reread as often as they would like. These books will take them on trips in their imagination and also allow them to interact with their families as they read them together. They are already so excited to get to choose their book when their birthday comes around. Thank you again!”

My students are very excited kindergarteners who love to come to school and learn new things. They come from a low-income, rural area of South Carolina, but are very eager to learn new things. They attend a large elementary school which houses pre-kindergarten through fifth grade.
