  • Today's Readers, Tomorrow's Leaders

    Funded Feb 26, 2015

Thank you so much for our new reading materials and books. My kindergarten students were so excited about using these new games in our small groups. They love "playing" the games so much that they forget they are actually practicing important reading skills. These games are fun and interactive. The new books were a hit with my students as well since they are able to choose books that interest them and that they can read proficiently. I am always amazed when I hear them say: "Mrs. Alford, listen to me read this new book!" It brings a smile to my face to see them so excited about reading! Thank you again for graciously giving to help my students succeed!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Alford

  • iCan Learn to Read With iPads!

    Funded Dec 18, 2014

Our classroom has been buzzing for the since the addition of our new iPad. My kindergarten students are so excited to have it in our classroom and are all eager to use it during Daily 5 rotations and centers. They are already learning how to open apps and use them appropriately. They use the iPad to listen to stories read aloud, play sight word games, and practice math skills. The addition of this piece of technology in our classroom has greatly impacted my students. They are not only learning to use the technology but also learning math and language skills that are so important. Thank you for positively impacting my students' lives!”

  • Inspire Creative Writing in Kindergarten!

    Funded Jan 1, 2015

Wow! Having new writing paper and the display strips for our class has really inspired my kindergarten students to do better writing. They are so excited about writing and showing off their writing for other people to see. They are writing stories they are passionate about and want to share with others. I have seen tremendous improvement in their story content as well as their penmanship and grammar. Having colored paper to write their final drafts on has increased the desire for writing interesting stories and the display strips give them a place to hang their work for parents, other teachers, administrators, and other students to see. Thank you so much for inspiring my students to be better writers! I am in awe of your generosity!”

  • Please Be Sweet and Buy Us Seats!

    Funded Dec 30, 2014

Thank you again for providing our classroom with new beanbag chairs to use during independent reading time. My students were so excited to see the new beanbags and even more excited when they found out they would get to take turns using them during independent reading time. They are getting so excited about learning to read and having a comfortable place to sit while reading makes it even more fun for them.

Reading is such an important skill for young children. I try to help my students become excited about reading so they will have a lifelong desire to be readers. Now that we have more comfortable spots to read in, my students will enjoy reading more. Thank you again for supporting our classroom!”

    Funded Jun 7, 2014

  • Padding Our Way Through Kindergarten

    Funded Feb 27, 2014

Thank you so very much for funding our project to get an iPad in our classroom. My students were so excited to find out we were getting an iPad and they are even more excited now when it is their turn to use the iPad. I love seeing the excitement in their faces as they use this new piece of technology to complete educational tasks. They love "playing" educational game apps and I love that they are learning at the same time. The iPad allows me to customize each child's educational experience for their academic level. Thank you again for helping with this project. Without your help, this would not have been possible.”

  • We Need The "Write" Tools For The Job

    Funded Dec 26, 2013

Thank you so much for helping to provide my students with new dry erase markers, Vis-Ã -Vis markers, pencils, erasers, sheet protectors and file folders. Having new markers was such a blessing for my class to be able to practice math on our whiteboards in a whole group setting. The students were able to spend more time working out their math problems rather than constantly having to change markers in an attempt to find one that didn't dry out quickly.

The Vis-Ã -Vis markers and file folders are being used for self-correcting "take it to your seat" practice activities. I love having a practical way for students to review and practice without wasting paper and they love being able to have a fun activity that they can work on independently. Thank you again for helping me to make each day a successful one in our classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Alford

  • Rainbow Paper To Color Our Kindergarten World

    Funded May 1, 2013

Thank you so much for helping to provide my students with new, colorful writing paper. Having new paper has made my kindergarten students more excited about writing and showing off their writing to others. They love when they see the colorful writing paper come out because they know this work is special and they write so much better when they feel like their writing will be noticed by other students and teachers. I am so proud of their writing progress this year because they are much more confident writers.

Thank you again for helping me to make each day of learning a successful one for my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Alford

  • Starting Our Year Off 'Write!'

    Funded May 1, 2013

The smiles on my students' faces were priceless when they walked into school on the first day and found that they each had a new pencil and pack of crayons waiting for them to use. They were so excited that they all had the necessary supplies needed to complete their classwork. It was amazing to see them so happy and carefree instead of worrying because some of their parents didn't send in the supplies they needed.

The pencils, crayons, erasers, and paper will be used throughout our school year to help my students grow as writers. Your contribution to our classroom helped us to begin a new school year with smiles instead of tears. Thank you for helping us start our year off "write!"”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Alford

  • Revved Up To Read

    Funded May 1, 2013

Thank you so much for funding this project. My students were so excited to see the boxes of books delivered to our classroom and they were even more excited when they realized they would be reading many of the books soon. My students discovered they would be practicing reading these books in class and then checking them out of our classroom library to practice reading with their parents at home. They are so excited now to begin our book in a bag program!

My students become so excited when they hear they are going to be able to choose their own book for reading time. They know they will be able to choose a book that is interesting to them as well as on their level. Thank you for making their goal of becoming a better reader possible!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Alford

My students are very excited kindergarteners who love to come to school and learn new things. They come from a low-income, rural area of South Carolina, but are very eager to learn new things. They attend a large elementary school which houses pre-kindergarten through fifth grade.
