Students at my school are high-achieving and motivated. We are in a suburban middle school with solid parent and community support. I teach Honors and GT science, and students and parents are constantly looking for ways to improve themselves, our community, and improve their understanding of the world around them. Teaching in unusual ways that challenge students to find their own ways to express themselves is, in my experience, the best way to reach the maximum number of students. As is typical in Utah, I have large classes of 32-38 students. This makes it difficult to buy enough supplies for a large project, as I have to anticipate the needs of many more students than is typical of a science classroom.
