Coding and Robotics Is for Everyone!
Funded Sep 18, 2024Thanks to your donations, Journey Middle School students have been able to enjoy over a dozen hours of coding and building with Spike Prime Robots. With a total of 8 robots on site, I have been able to implement an after school club that meets weekly, serving 20+ students with new members joining weekly. The club is made up of a diverse group of male and female students, multilingual students, and students of color. We are so proud to offer this program to anyone who is interested! In addition to the after school club, the robot kits are being used during school on Club Days and during math class. At JMS, we plan to use the robots as part of a Project Based Learning class too.
Educators across the school division have recently met to plan a division-wide middle school robotics competition. Thanks to the generosity of donors and through collaboration between schools, every middle school now has robots in the building! We are making great progress toward having a school division that provides students with exposure to coding and robotics in the middle grades.
Students have told me how much they appreciate access to the robots. One student expressed to me that she had never been part of a club before! She was so excited to be a part of a community. As we begin to prepare for our competition, we will keep in mind the importance of working together, or "coopertition" as First Lego League Robotics calls it. Thank you for your part in making this experience possible for my students!”
With gratitude,
Ms. McIntosh
