  • STEAM Their Way to Success!

    Chevron Rocks!!!!! That is what you get when you ask my fifth graders what they think of Chevron. :-) Thank you, Chevron for your amazing donation of a Microsoft Surface, mouse and pen. What a gift! The students have been using it daily to practice their typing, which is so important as a skill that they must use every day more and more. They also use it to play educational games and build up their basic skills, which in a class of more than 50% special needs students, is even more important. I have also been able to attach it to our classroom Promethean board and project our notes and novels that we can read together. It has been such an amazing addition to our class that I feel blessed to have been given a chance to use it and everyday we learn something new because of it. Without Chevron's amazing generosity this would not be possible, so again from the bottom of all our hearts we truly THANK YOU!”

  • Becoming STEAM One "Mini" Step at a Time!

    We would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Because of Chevron and Donors choose, we have been able to do so much with our new computer and monitor. We study about current events and get to watch CNN Student News. We completed our STEAM board with pictures and graphs made and printed from our new computer. Our teacher (Mrs. Mejia) doesn't have to wait for 10 minutes for something to open on her old computer. What a difference that has made! We appreciate everything that this new computer has been able to do for us. Thank you again for funding our classroom and helping us to "mini" step into STEAM. We love you Chevron and Donors choose!”

  • A Little Bit of STEM and Supplies

    Chevron Rocks!!!!! That is what you get when you ask my fifth graders what they think of Chevron. :-) Thank you, Chevron and Donors for your amazing donation of all the amazing supplies you provided for our class. What an amazing gift!

    The students have been using all of the supplies almost everyday. We have been using the multiplication dice to build our fluency. We built the model body and skeleton to study the human body. We use the Recess dice to play and exercise. We use the pencils, colored pencils and sharpener daily so we can continue to learn without pause. The printer has been used to print tests, make copies when we received a new student and the students could not wait for it to be installed! They were so excited! The headphones were a very welcome addition to our computer center, now the others don't get distracted when we are using the computers. All of our lungs thank you because with the vacuum, I have been able to keep our room much cleaner and much less dusty.

    Without Chevron's and Donors amazing generosity none of this would be possible, so again from the bottom of all our hearts we truly THANK YOU!”

  • Bringing the World into the Classroom

    There are not enough words to say how much this project means to my class and I. We use the iPad daily. And because of the thumb drive and hard drive, this years Yearbook will be the best one ever. It will have the traditional class photos but it has so many more student taken pictures because they have been able to add "selfies" and pictures of them having fun this year. It is from their point of view and allows them to really see how their 5th and last year here was spent. The headphones have been great in eliminating other classroom noises that distract while they are trying to use the technology we have. I have even used them on a student who just needed a "noise-break" while taking a paper and pencil test. They really worked! It is truly amazing what can be done when the technology is new and useful. My class and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You have made our year so wonderful and you really do Rock! :-)”

  • Expanding Horizons

    My class and I would like to take this time to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We could not have been more excited about receiving our iPad minis with Otter Boxes. It was a wonderful welcome back after Winter Break. The students could not stay off of the iPads. Every chance they had they would get them and play an educational game or complete an online learning resource such as Reading Plus or Accelerated Reader. When I originally applied for this project I had 16 students. There are now 24 students who have the benefit of these iPads. They have been a wonderful addition to our limited and dated technology and the students continue to be excited about using them. With the iPads and the educational games that I was able to install, my students tests scores have improved again and again. In fact one of my students' reading levels increased by 3 grade levels! What an amazing resource and it is with all sincerity that I thank you, Chevron, for funding such a worthwhile and useful project. As the students said "Chevron Rocks."”

Due to the many different ability levels of the class, many strategies are used in order to deliver a concept or lesson. I would love to begin implementing a technology component along with Reading, Math, Science and Social Studies but due to the fact that the school is in a low socio-economic area, many of the students do not have or see the newest technology available. So many of the students have the motivation and desire to learn about technology, but they do not have the economic means to do so.
