Let’s Code 2!
Funded Jan 28, 2023Thank you so much for the donation of the 5 tablets. The students were so excited to see them as it meant that they didn't have to share technology anymore. Today we used them to control programable spheres that the students can program to follow specific patters or use in manual more. We focused on manual mode with the students today and the time flew by in class. When I told them it was time to clean up they were like, "What? We just started! Class can't be over." However, it was. The 50 minutes flew by so fast they didn't even notice.
Thank you for letting time fly.”

Fly Free!
Funded Dec 15, 2022Thank you so much for giving my students one of the best drones on the market to use and perfect their flight skills. When the students open the box they were happy and sad at the same time because they knew that while they would have an opportunity to fly the drone they would have to wait a long time due to the New York winter weather.
However, just recently an opportunity came up that we needed drone to take pictures with. One of my students that night on his oun completed the FAA TRUST exam and got his recreational license, we were planning on doing that as a class when it warms up. The next day he joined me and the custodian on the roof to take photos of the roof with the drone in order to submit a proposal for a roof top recreation area.
His skills and phots came out great.”

Lets Code!
Funded Dec 5, 2022Thank you so much for the donation of the 5 Lenova Tab P11 tablets. As soon as they were unboxed the students were excited to want to use them right away. Unfortunately, for then they would have to wait until I can install the software and run all the updates. At last the big day came, they were able to use the tablets to start coding the drones and other electronics that have arrived since then. The students look forward to the days that they are able to code and they love the excitement of learning and seeing their code translated into actual flights of our drones or the paths of our Sphero robots.
Thank you.”

Funded Jan 28, 2023Thank you for the kind donation of the tablet protectors. When the students unboxed them they were so happy. Now that our tablets are covered the students are not as nervous about using them. Out are coming all the drones and robots because the students can focus on the coding on not the safety of the tablets. We are also now planning a phot scavenger hunt with the tablets since it is now safe to take them outside.
We are looking forward to all the new things we can accomplish with our protected tablets.”

Game On!
Funded Dec 31, 2022The students saw that I had left sealed boxes and the class table and wondered what we inside of them. So we had an unboxing party. They were amazed when they opened the first package and found three Uno game sets, as they love that game. Next they opened the large box with eager excitement. They were surprised to find it filled with board games! Their first question was were we going to use the games that day in class instead of learning science, unfortunately for them, that was a hard no on may part. However, they were very happy to hear that they would be able to use the Uno and other game during the lunch breaks.
Thank you for bringing excitement to my students lunch periods.”

Crash Protection!
Funded Dec 6, 2022Thank you so much for the prop guards. My students were very happy when we unboxed them. At first they were not sure what they were looking at but then one student stated, "Those look like the guards on the small drones, are they for the big one?" When I responded that they were the students couldn't wait. We swapped out the cracked guards for the new ones and the students were able to fly the drone around the classroom.
The drone bumped off the ceiling, bounced off the walls, hit the smartboard, however, due to the guards that you have given up the drone and my classroom all survived this learning encounter.
These guards will keep the drones and my class in order for a long while.”

Drone Course Challenge
Funded Oct 12, 2022Thank you so much for giving my students the equipment to build and obstacle course for their drone coding classes. If you look at the photos, you can see the students have programed the drones to fly through the hoola hoops. It took a lot of time for them to perfect their code to accomplish that. Later the students will work on flying the drones in manual mode, at which point they will be able to use the smaller hoops to work on precision flying. They have greatly enjoyed challenging themselves by making the course harder each time they succeed.”

Funded Sep 29, 2022Thank you so much for bringing this project to my class. As the first box arrived the students and I were super excited and quickly opened the box to find the cases the drones were stored in.... but no drones. We were so confused and disappointed, however, the nest day the box with the drones arrived! Everyone was so excited to see them. We unboxed the drones and set up charging stations for the batteries to we can test the drones as soon as possible. Finally the big even came, the students were able to open the droneblock software and start coding.
At first we started with simple instructions just to get the feel of everything, then we started to challenge ourselves to see who can write the code to fly the drones through the hoops hanging in the class (see photos). It took a while but eventually everyone was able code the drones for the hoop mission.
Thank you for bringing this excitement to my classroom.”

Funded Sep 29, 2022Thank you very much for bring this project to its completion. We had our class unboxing and the students were excited to see the drone, however, since only one student had a photo release he got to be in the photos for the unboxing and the indoor test flight.
The students then started to work on their FAA Trust certificate and the entire 7th grade completed the test, which allows them to legally fly the drone outdoors.
Finally, after school we took the drone across the street to a local park for our first flights. The students learned and practiced some of the basic skills and had a great time. We are looking forward to more flights as we can schedule them.”

Funded Sep 29, 2022Thank you so much for this ice maker! When we unboxed it the students wanted to try it out right away. However, we were not planning on cooking or making anything that day. One of my students outsmarted me... We were learning about phase changes, so he informed me that we can demonstrate the water to ice phase change using the ice machine, so we did.
At the end of the week we were finally able to use the ice machine for its intended purpose, ice for our pineapple smoothies. So out came the ice machine, the blender, and all the other ingredients we needed and the it was SMOOTHIE TIME. Thank you for bringing this ice machine to our class.”
