  • Lights, iPad, Action!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you so much for helping fund this project! Students spend a lot of their time using technology for fun, but this project has given them an opportunity to develop 21st century skills and show their learning in new ways.

My students have loved developing scripts to produce and film short films. This has allowed them to combine their knowledge of content, creativity, and humor on a whole new level. They are extra engaged in reading because they need to understand what is happening in the text in order to create a script for it. Everyone, myself included, looks forward to watching everyone's videos as a group.

This all could not have been possible without the funding of this project! You are developing students' skills and growing their love for reading and for school. Thank you again for the iPad and recording supplies!”

  • A First Place Maker Space!

    Funded Apr 8, 2018

Thank you for your doonations to create a makerpace for my students! My class was so excited to learn they were going to be receiving supplies to fuel their creativity! The iPad has helped me incorporate technology into the classroom, which both motivates my students to learn and allows them to demonstrate their knowledge in a new and exciting way. One way we have used the iPad is for social studies. After learning about a historical event, students use their knowledge to write a script based in the time period. They then are able to perform their script and record it for all to watch.

The other items in the makerspace like legos, magentic blocks, Play-doh, and K'nex are have also been used and much appreciated by the students. They have used them for a slow, "soft start" in the mornings and during STEM challenges.

These items have updated my classroom to the 21st century and have given my students opportunities they wouldn't otherwise have had. Thank you again.”

  • Student Store Motivation!

    Funded Aug 9, 2022

Thank you for supporting my vision of creating a student store that had incentives for all students. My students were extra motivated to learn and practice reading because of this store. My studnets were able to walk away with things they loved like colorful pens, tasty snacks, and, of course, slime! I was also shocked to see the amount of students who chose to not spend any money at the first store, but instead chose to save up for bigger items such as the sports equipment.

Being a fluent reader is a such a big life skill, and I truly believe this helped motivate students to push themselves to focus and be engaged every day. Thank you again for your generosity and willingness to support the students at my school!”

  • Kickin' the Germs to the Curb

    Funded Aug 27, 2018

I am so thankful that this project was funded! With a class of thirty-four, germs are easily shared. Although these items seem simple, they fulfill my students' basic needs. We are now able to keep ourselves germ-free by using quality tissues and hand sanitizer. In addition, the air spray and air purifier are keeping the air we breathe clean and pure.

As an added benefit, the air purifier has even doubled as a science lesson, as my students have been so interested in how it works! We have been learning about the process of eliminating unhealthy particles in the air with filters!

With the school year just starting, this project could not have been funded at a better time! Thank you again for our generosity and for helping keep our classroom healthy!”

  • Touchdown on the Playground

    Funded Mar 2, 2018

My students have been having a blast using their new flag football equipment! When they first saw the equipment they were completely ecstatic; their faces lit up, their mouths and eyes wide open. That excitement didn't fade as we went through the process of learning how to handle the equipment and how to play the game. We first took time on the fundamentals. They enjoyed being in small groups practicing the proper way to throw and catch a football. When it came time to review kicking/punting, they loved being able to set the football on the tee correctly and kicking the ball. They were shocked at how different it was from kicking a playground or soccer ball, and this motivated them to keep trying until they got it just right!

Once they had the basics down, they were eager to learn the rules and play their first game! I have never seen my class work together and help each other as much as I did on this day. Their patience with each other and their engagement in the game was truly heartwarming.

I am so grateful to you for giving my students this opportunity. I believe team sports are important not only for health and fitness, but also for the opportunity to have positive social interactions. This equipment has motivated them to be active and to work with others for one common goal.

Thank you again for your generosity and willingness to help my class. Without you, this would not have been possible.”

    Ms. Luna

  • A Focus on Fitness

    Funded Dec 7, 2017

This project has been such an amazing gift for my students. When they first opened the boxes, they cheered and students said how cool everything was. Multiple students asked if they could take everything out for P.E. that very day, but they were so disappointed to know some equipment would need to be assembled first.

On that day we were able to use the duckwalkers and jumpropes. I taught them how to properly use each one before starting. I had never seen them so engaged in listening to directions before!

At first I was nervous that they would argue about who got to use the supplies first, but I soon realized that this wouldn't be an issue. They found joy in simply watching their friends try out the new equipment. Every day since, they ask if we can take the equipment out, and have found new ways to use them.

My students have been smiling, laughing, and helping one another, and participation is at an all-time high! This equipment has brought an new life into P.E. and I am forever grateful for your support. Thank you again for your generosity!”

  • On a Mission to Visit to a Mission!

    Funded Sep 14, 2017

Our field trip to Mission San Juan Capistrano was spectacular. Because of your generosity, we were able to have experience docents lead us through the beautiful grounds. They showed us what life was like as a soldier, as a padre, and as an Acjachemen Native American. I was blown away by the amount of questions my class had for the docents about the different people who lived and worked at the mission. The students were intrigued by not only the retelling of daily life and important events, but also the tools and other artifacts from so long ago. They were also amazed by all of the ornate decorations in the chapel. Many students said that their favorite part was seeing the ruins of the Great Stone Church. Having learned about natural disasters earlier this year, they were shocked to see the aftermath of an earthquake.

It was amazing to see my students so engaged. They had so many great questions and could not stop taking pictures. One particularly memorable moment for me was with one of my students in the cemetery. As soon as the docent stopped talking and started walking to the next location, my student turned to me and whispered, "It is so great to learn about the past!"

I am so incredibly thankful to have this project funded. With your generous donation you made my vision, as well as my students wishes, a reality. I am so glad that my students were able to get to experience California's history. Prior to this field trip, my students did not seem very interested in learning about the history of our state. Since returning from our trip, my students have a newfound interest in history. They ask questions, are engaged, and constantly relate things back to things they saw or learned about at the mission.

Thank you again for supporting this project. You have created amazing memories for my class that will not be forgotten!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Luna

In fourth grade, students are expected to write opinion pieces, explanatory texts, and imaginative narratives. Although my students enjoy working on writing, I would like to bring in a performing component that would really excite them. My students need an iPad and tripod to act out their writing. They will act out short stories that come straight from their imagination, eloquently state their opinion on a “newscast interview”, and inform us about the beautiful world we live in through a documentary! These videos would be viewed in class and would also be available for parents and other teachers to see. This would not only allow me to incorporate performing arts into the curriculum, but also give my English learners a fun and safe space to practice speaking. Please help me give my natural performers a creative outlet!
