All students have a voice! My project will give students the opportunity to choose their learning environment based on their needs. During independent work, students will have the autonomy to choose where they work best. Some students love working at individual tables. I plan to offer TV trays to accommodate. Some prefer the floor, so they can squiggle and move without worry of distracting others. Floor cushions are perfect for this! Others like comfy chairs that remind them of home, such as bean bags and saucer chairs. During rotations and group work, crate and bucket seats give the perfect creative outlet. Flexible seating replaces the sedentary classroom with physical activity that promotes oxygen flow to the brain and muscles. Giving the choice of mobility generates alertness which in turn builds productivity and boosts classroom performance! Students will be able to change their position or location in the classroom when they need it most. This choice not only is empowering for students, but encourages the idea to take responsibility for their learning. Lastly, I am driven to update my classroom seating when one of my students wrote a persuasive essay titled, "Why Kids Should Have Individual Seats."
