  • First Graders Need Fun Cooperative Games!

    Funded Feb 28, 2019

Thank you for funding our cooperative games project! This was a particularly special request for my class, as we chose our games together. We worked to choose games that students would be successful at playing, while also picking some learning games to play.

My students were so excited to see these games come in! We opened the box together, and you can only imagine their excitement when they saw that they received what they'd hoped for! That day, we spent our afternoon learning the new games and rotating through centers to play them.

Thanks to your input, I have been able to successfully model teamwork, cooperative game play, and how to generally be a good sport. My students are learning to work together and practicing appropriate play. I can only imagine how this will help them down the line as they work on group projects!

Thank you again for your support!”

  • Wanted: Read Alouds to Target Character Education and Diverse Backgrounds!

    Funded May 8, 2019

Thank you so much for your generous donations that helped us become fully funded! Thanks to your contributions, my class is full of amazing new books to teach character education, acceptance, and social differences. I cannot explain how much that means to me!

My class was so excited to get these new books. We dove right into reading them. Their current favorite is "I'm Not JUST a Scribble", which they enjoyed reading and discussing. We talked about how to be fair and include everyone, even if they don't look exactly the same as us. It is so valuable to be able to have these conversations using literacy as the basis for discussion!

Thank you again for all you've done for our classroom. We are so excited to continue reading and sharing these books!”

  • First Graders Need New Book Bins!

    Funded Nov 22, 2018

Thank you so much for supporting our classroom! Thanks to you, we have brand new AMAZING book bins that we use to store books on the rug, as well as white boards and markers for our center work. I also use the bins to store my guided reading materials for each group, and you cannot IMAGINE the difference this has made in our organization!

On top of the fact that students have easy, ready access to the books in these bins, they are also learning how to use a better filing and organization system for the classroom library. I have been able to hold space for books that support our curriculum, and for the last two months, I have been putting out new nonfiction books for the students to enjoy.

We thank you so much for helping to improve our library! My class will use these bins for years to come.”

  • First Graders Need Comfy Couches For Flexible Seating!

    Funded Apr 12, 2018

Thank you, thank you, thank you! We are so excited about our comfy couch and chair, and you helped make them both possible!

My class is particularly excited about this project because they CHOSE the materials! Many teachers have a vision for what they would like for their classroom, and I gave my class the opportunity to choose their next project. They LOVED the flexible seating we received before - ball chairs, giant pillows, wobble stools and cushions, and floor chairs. They decided they really wanted a couch to get cozy on during reading.

Imagine the excitement when our materials came! The class loves sitting on the couch and chair. They sit there during reading, specifically with a partner. They sometimes sit there during carpet time as well. The addition of these resources to my room have helped make my students more comfortable in the classroom. I really appreciate everything you've done for us and your assistance with making this project a reality!”

  • First Graders Need an Organized iPad Station for Flexible Groups!

    Funded May 29, 2018

Thank you so much for bringing this project to life! With your help, my students have an organized, easy to use iPad station with spots for headphones and iPads. In addition, the iPads and chargers you donated have helped my students have access to constantly charged resources (we did not have enough before) and an easier set of expectations for how we store these tools.

My students use the iPads for intervention programs in the classroom in both reading and math. They can often be found listening to books, completing comprehension questions, and spending time playing math games and working on skills at their independent levels. Thanks to your assistance, this center has become virtually independent for them. They are able to take care of our technology resources and make sure they are charged on their own, with little instruction from me. This allows them to take pride in their materials, but it also allows me to work in small groups with other students and not to have to regulate the technology all the time - an invaluable help!

Thank you again for your generous donations. We appreciate all that you do to make our classroom successful!”

  • Fabulous First Graders Need Flexible Seating Options!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

My students and I would like to thank you SO MUCH for your amazing contributions to our project! Thanks to you, we received the most amazing flexible seating options for our room. We normally spread out around the room during reading, but are often sitting on the hard floor. The students were getting tired and restless from this, and flexible, comfy seating seemed like the only option for us.

When I told the kids we were receiving these seats, they were SO excited. The boxes came, and we had a little unboxing party. The kids absolutely LOVE these seats. They have created a little more focus, a little more interest, and a lot more comfort for my students!

Often, children are asked to work in their seats for long hours at a time. I believe that children learn better when given the option to move, and you've helped that to become a reality in my classroom!

Your generous donations have inspired us to create another project for more flexible seating for the room! This time, my class decided on their own comfy seating, and helped me word the Donors Choose project proposal. You are helping my students dream of what might make their classroom a better place. Thank you!”

  • Firsties Need Headphones for Their Listening Ears!

    Funded Nov 3, 2017

Thank you so much for funding our headphones! We are so glad to have them - especially because our old ones kept breaking!

The students in my class are in charge of taking care of their own technology tools. I believe in teaching responsibility through caring for our classroom and tools. No matter how hard they tried or how well they took care of the old headphones, they were on their last legs! Thanks to you, our class now has 7 sets of pretty amazing, volume controlled and noise canceling headphones. The students are more engaged simply because the headphones are blocking out all the other noise... and as a result, they're getting a lot more reading done!

When I first told the kids about the headphone replacement, they were ecstatic! They take care of these headphones well, and I know they're super glad that donors like you were generous enough to make sure they had these awesome listening tools.

Thank you again for your help!”

  • Help My Firsties Rise and Shine with Morning Work Binders!

    Funded Sep 28, 2017

Thank you so much for funding this project for our class! Let me tell you a little bit about why these are so amazing.

Currently, the kids trickle into the classroom from 8:45am-9:10am. This staggered entrance makes morning work nearly impossible... until these binders, that is! Now, the kids will have morning work binders that are engaging and fun to complete. They will be able to work on skills at their independent level, and will be practicing much needed math and literacy skills throughout the morning.

In addition to making me a super happy teacher, my students are going to be ecstatic when we start using these! They are always begging for more morning work (believe it or not!), and I am going to introduce these tomorrow. I can't wait to see their faces!

As the year goes on, I am going to swap out some of the activities to make them appropriate to our current learning. I am so excited for the opportunity to give my class these awesome differentiated books.

Thank you so much for your help!”

  • Building Science-Minded Brains Through ecoSTEM!

    Funded Mar 9, 2016

Thank you so much for helping to fund our Eco-Stem kits! We have been using our "insect kit" (as we like to call it) and have used their planter to plant some beans! We have also been spending lots of time using our little insect view boxes and binoculars to check out all of the cool new bugs coming from our new garden. Our class also studies insects, so we have been spending lots of time using our new materials to check them out!

Thank you again for bringing these tools into our classroom! We have been writing insect reports and I truly believe that my kids are more interested and more engaged because of the tools that they have to experience them!”

  • Fabulous Firsties Need Reading Bins!

    Funded Sep 3, 2016

Thank you so much for the amazing new Reading Bins! Thanks to you, my students now have brand new, beautiful bins to hold their books! In addition to that, the book bins that were scratched up and breaking, have now been replaced by bright, colorful bins. The children are beside themselves with excitement at their new bins!

In addition to the book bins which have made the students so happy, you have also added some amazing chapter book and picture book holders to my classroom. I can't tell you how useful this is! This is allowing my students to have the option to choose different books. It is allowing me the opportunity to display and highlight books from certain authors at different times of the year. With the addition of these resources, you have allowed me to highlight areas of my library that I normally would not, simply because they don't fit into the bins in our library.

This project is just the first step to a complete classroom library makeover. Thank you so much for bringing these resources to my students, and for being a part of making my classroom more engaging!”

My students attend a magnet school in a city in Connecticut. We have a very high population of ELL students in my school, and we set a high bar for our students. I may be biased, but I think I have the most eager, wonderful students who love to learn as much as they can. We implemented Reader's and Writer's Workshop last year, and my students will be working on adding in some amazing workstations to our work period this year! My scholars come from various economic and cultural backgrounds, but they pull together to make a wonderful group of learners.
