As an Educational Technology Specialist, I am charged with bringing the latest and most exciting technology into the classrooms of Atlanta Public Schools. I am currently teaching 3D design, drafting and printing as a unit of study with a portable 3D lab. I was recently supplied by the district with five UP! Mini 3D printers (to couple with my three Afinia H800's) that I've been using to bring 3D design to students at all grade levels via TinkerCAD, Google Classroom and their chromebooks. As the instructor I need to access a variety of programs and web apps simultaneously. TinkerCAD, Autodesk Inventor, the printer user interface, various apps within the Adobe suite, my Google Classroom along with a variety of browser windows. I need to be able to operate these programs seamlessly via multiple displays as well as operate a variety of peripheral devices such as 3D printers, engravers, etc. In short, this portable lab is in need of a dedicated "lab computer" that travels with our printers from site to site. Having a dedicated laptop for this laboratory project will enable me to work more efficiently as the instructor and will put more resources directly in the hands of the students on which to learn these skills and operated the equipment we need to put these skills to work.
