My school is a Title One school, where over 90% of the students are on free and reduced lunch, and the majority are second language learners. Our students come to school with limited vocabulary, limited experiences, and limited home support. We are a poor school with meager funds available. Every day five to seven classes come through my library. When they come, I want them to feel welcomed, loved, and supported in their literacy journeys. Not only do they get to check out one to two books each week, I engage them in read aloud time to spark their imagination, attention, and interest in books.
