"Playing with Plays" Drama Club Start-Up!
Funded Mar 10, 2017What an impact your gift has had on my students! Because of your donation, my students have early access to the works of Shakespeare. We have studied story elements, character traits, and plot development using these resources!
They love using the resources to act out the stories rather than traditional reading strategies like reading with a partner or reading independently. Once they "become" the character, they better understand actions and motives as well as plot.
I have seen some of my students blossom with these new resources. The students are excited to be "actors" and are getting so in to the story; much more so than if we were just reading the story aloud.
Thanks again!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Chambers
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone: A Class Set!
Funded Sep 24, 2015First, let me start by saying thank you so much for your generous donation! The books have become a treasure in our classroom! We read the books daily for 15-20 minutes and then have class discussion. We have a timeline and as we read, we move a miniature Harry along the timeline from each major event to the next. We've used the text to study character analysis, sequence of events, vocabulary, plot, setting, prediction, and visualization. The books have become an invaluable resource.
Reading in our classroom is a team effort! We read daily in reading groups for 60 minutes, 45 minutes together as a class for comprehension study, 20 minutes for Harry Potter reading and discussion and each student pulls out a chapter book if they finish work early. In our class we READ READ, READ!
Students have absolutely, unequivocally fallen in love with Harry Potter. It is by far, their favorite reading time of the day. They are all actively engaged in all our Harry Potter activities and some students have begun looking for books similar to Harry Potter and they are anxious to begin the second book of the series. One student even dressed up as Harry Potter for Halloween!
These books have changed my students' lives and they have become forever readers!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Chambers
